  1. Why I Want to be a Helper? Na’omiThorinson Judy Diero Human Services 301 Western Washington University 24 October 2011

  2. Na’omi E. Pierce5yrs old Before the Abuse, when things were Good System: My sister, My mom and dad, and my baby brother. Paradigm was happy. Dad military. Go out to eat. Flowers. Her life is what kids should feel happiness and love.

  3. Hawaii I lived on the Big Island. After dad retired we Moved back and the Abuse started. Parents Paradigm Shifted. My system of safety is being broken.

  4. Squeakers “Sqeaks” Mc Squeakerson-Pierce Squeaks was my best friend. Given to me by Papa (Grandfather). Had him as long as I can remember. I ran to him when my dad was done “disciplining” me. Reminds me of happy thoughts and sad thoughts. He gave me strength as a 2nd grader on. “Much of learning to be an effective helper involves heightening [empathy] so that you may be better able to crawl inside someone else’s skin …” (Kottler, 200, p. 25)

  5. Uncle Gary Preacher. Lives in Hawai’i. He is the closest person I had to a helper in my life. Does not know, he saved my life. Excellent example of Smith and Smith’s you have to love yourself before you can love your neighbor from “love thy neighbor as thyself” (2008, p. 35)

  6. Lepeka E. Peterson Older Sister. Facebook pick. Pillar of Strength. Example of a Helper. However she did not take as good a care of herself as she should have.

  7. Joshua K. Pierce Baby Brother. He handles paradigm shifts well. He’s my hero. He has a grace and maturity that I didn’t have. Takes care of himself: band and reading.

  8. Mark W. Pierce Taken on the day of my Wedding. He is example of helpers helping. He was able to change his paradigm. I believe people can change because of him.

  9. Gavin thorinson Taken on day of our wedding. 28 yrs old. He supports me.

  10. Na’omi E. Thorinson21 yrs old Just before I got married. On the top of the space needle. Still earning AA in Psychology. ????? I want to help kids that have been in situations that I have been in.
