Board Members: Dawn Taylor- MPO President Melissa Borquez- MPO Vice President Lisa Gibson-Chun- MPO Secretary Nancy Spencer- MPO Treasurer Jennifer Bostic- MPO Treasurer Committee Heads: Volunteer Coordinator – Helen Hart Social Media Committee Chair – Sean Herd Parent/Teacher Liaison – Helen Herd PTSO Liaison – Laura Miyazaki A set of parent volunteers who have offered our support and assistance in establishing this new organization for the benefit of the Mandarin Enrichment and Dual Language Immersion programs at Whispering Wind Academy.

  3. Why are we here? (Background) • The Programs: • Mandarin Enrichment Program has been a constant at WWA and is offered to all enrolled students. • DLI Program is in its fourth year at Whispering Wind Academy. • Constant Evolution: New teachers, incoming students, curriculum development. • Growing Need: • Parents, teachers, and administrators have identified the need for growth of both programs as a priority for long-term success. • The unique circumstances around these culturally based programs warrant a specific entity focused on support and growth • 3

  4. What is our Purpose? (Our Mission) The mission of the Mandarin Parent Organization is to celebrate students, parents and teachers by strengthening, enhancing and encouraging the dual language immersion program to ensure bilingual literacy and cultural educational opportunities for the benefit of all students attending Whispering Wind Academy. Parents/Guardians participating in the MPO will assist educational staff through volunteering, program promotion and fundraising support to provide additional educational tools and opportunities for students participating in the dual language immersion and Mandarin enrichment programs. The success of these programs will ensure cultural awareness and education not only for the dual language immersion students but for all students and their families attending Whispering Wind Academy.

Bylaws Bylaws are a formality of organizing a group such as this Ours are: • Unique to our specific purpose and needs • Structured guidelines that support the legal requirements to manage an organization in charge of raising funds for our school • Leveraged from relevant sections of PTSO, PTO Today bylaws • 10
