Labor unions represent around 30% of paid workers in Canada, negotiating vital workplace issues such as wages, job security, working conditions, vacations, and pensions through collective bargaining. Beyond negotiating with employers, unions act as lobby groups advocating for favorable laws at provincial and federal levels, including minimum wage, job training, and support for women's equality, pensions, and healthcare. Historically, unions have been crucial in protecting workers from unsafe working conditions and fighting for better labor rights.
