  1. The power of forgiveness brings reconciliation • We are capable of achieving the extraordinary – but we don’t do it alone • “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do” – Helen Keller 1918 - 2013

  2. Advent • Anticipation, waiting andexpectation • First coming or Second coming • “In the beginning…God • “Your Kingdom come”

  3. Our perspective is too small • Time colours everything for us • A time for everything? • 86,400 seconds every day • The issue isn’t about how much time we have but what we do with the time available to us • The death rate is a universal average of 100%

  4. Our perspective is too small • “The days of our life are seventy years, or eighty if we have the strength” – Psalm 90:10 (NLV) • “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” – Psalm 90:12 (NIVUK) • “A thousand years to you are like one day; they are like yesterday, already gone, like a short hour in the night” – Psalm 90:4 (GNT)

  5. God’s perspective • Time is the part of eternity we live here on earth • We segregate – He integrates • We compartmentalise our lives – He unifies • It’s the totality of our lives that counts • Maintaining and Attaining • Time only matters to us here on earth because we need a unit of measurement that enables us allocate our activities “eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” – Ephesians 4:3 (ESV) “we all attain to the unity of the faith” – Ephesians 4:13 (ESV)

  6. God’s perspective • Our salvation was planned before time began • God sits outside of time • He knows the end from the beginning • Sin and independence wasn’t a surprise • A rescue plan was required “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind” – John 1:1-4 (NIVUK)

  7. “For consider what he has done – before the foundation of the world he chose us to become, in Christ, his holy and blameless children living within his constant care. He planned, in his purpose of love, that we should be adopted as his own children through Jesus Christ – that we might learn to praise that glorious generosity of his which has made us welcome in the everlasting love he bears towards the Son” – Ephesians 1:4-6 (JB Phillips)

  8. God’s perspective • Our salvation continues after time ends • Our hope is eternal life • Time ends but that’s not the end for us • Jesus is the Alpha & Omega • By conquering death and sin on the cross, Jesus procured for us eternal life “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades” – Revelation 1:17-18 (NIVUK)

  9. Two questions • “Have you received Jesus’ forgiveness and eternal life?” • “If so, how are you living your life now in the light of eternity?” • “Your Kingdom come”
