  3. Delivery of Internet Datagram • Unicasting service • point to point delivery of datagram • Almost all of Internet services use this service. • Multicasting service • point to specific multi-point delivery of datagram • needs multicasting IP addresses & routers • Broadcasting service • point to non-specific multi-point delivery of datagram • causing too much traffic to the network • have been used only in the subnet J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  4. Basic Limitations of Internet Services • Necessity of unique IP address • Lack of IP addresses to be assigned • Difficulty of managing IP addresses, especially for mobile unit • Client-server model : server access & request • Necessity of pre-knowledge of web site address • Every time click is needed to request information. • So much load to server as increasing number of users J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  5. Benefits of IP Broadcasting • No necessity of receiver IP address • No DHCP server. No IP address managing. No limitation of number of receivers • No necessity of pre-knowledge of web site address & information request • Just listening and tuning of broadcast data like radio • Less load to server and less network traffic • Sending datagram to each Access Point not to terminals • No privacy problem of location information • No violations to existing protocols ! J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  16. Adaptation to Wireless & Wired Network • IP broadcasting can be applied to all kind of wireless network termination. • Wireless LAN, 2.3GHz Portable Internet, 3G All IP Network, Bluetooth, UWB, WLL, DSRC, Broadcasting System, etc. • This technology is most efficient method for local broadcasting for the wireless network whose backbone is Internet. • This technology can be also applied to router / switch for the applications of local broadcasting. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  17. Killer Applications of IP Broadcasting J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  18. Simple Bridging between Broadcasting and Internet Connection Broadcast Text, Graphic, Image, Sound, even Alerting data * Special menu of nearby restaurant - Sea food spaghetti - Herb bibimbab - Italian pizza - Hot cold noodle Korean Restaurant Special price W5,000 click! from just seeing into interactive service - Broadcasting service + Interactive communication service with unique communication network (WLAN) J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  19. Local Shopping Information Services - As users pass through the street, they get the information about shopping, entertainment, restaurant nearby. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  20. Local Geographic Information Services 1F Click & move to web site automatically Shop Cafe Toilet Telephone No. Parking lot - The user can get the geographic information without any prior knowledge about where one is. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  21. EXIT FIRE Disaster Relief Guiding Services ESCAPE ! - With data storage and battery equipped in the AP, emergency information can be broadcast for a while, without power supply and network connection. - User terminal can be awakened with alerting signal. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  22. repeating Local Traffic Information Services for Drivers - Broadcasting service for local traffic information. No click for requesting data is needed. - The data should be provided to the drivers at least once within the radio zone. So repeated broadcasting is necessary with internal data storage of AP. - Mobility with WLAN is already approved with experiment by several operators. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL

  23. Data Throughput Measurement for 11gin Mobile Environment - Vehicle speed : 160km/h, AP ANT Height : 1m - Ref. paper Will be published in IEICE Tr. Comm. J.T. Oh, Hansung/J.G.Park, Samsung/J.W.Lim, RRL
