M etaphor a word or phrase for one thing that is used to refer to another thing in order to show or suggest that they are similar. VISUAL METAPHOR The representation of a person, place, thing, or idea by way of a visual image that suggests a particular association or point of similarity.

Directions: • Draw three boxes in your sketchbook. (Each box will be a separate picture plane.) • In each box, draw a thumbnail composition for your idea. Your compositional arrangements must be interesting and fill each picture plane/box. We will choose the best from your three ideas.
