  10. Kentucky Technical Assistance Center The Kentucky Technical Assistance Center is headquartered at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. In the Bluegrass state 31% of the population receive their water from small water systems and we assist these small water systems in providing safe drinking water. We ensure that these small systems acquire and are able to maintain the technical, financial, and managerial capacities necessary to provide safe drinking water. The goal of the CWRS is to conduct research, outreach, education, and assistance for the protection of public health through the provisions of safe drinking water and clean water. Contact information: 270-745-8895 http://water.wku.edu

  11. Technology • The Kentucky TAC is involved in many projects directly dealing with ways to help our local small water systems and eventually these techniques may be used nationwide. Following are some of the projects CWRS has been involved in. • Innovative technical assistance • Database management system and • information tools • Source water protection program • Monitoring and assessment to • determine the environmental risks of • wastewater. • Small water systems circuit rider • program

Mississippi Technical Assistance Center • The Southeastern Regional Small Public Water Systems Technical Assistance Center (SE-TAC) is headquartered at the GeoResources Institute at Mississippi State University. SE-TAC administers a regional competitive grants program designed to address small system issues. The SE-TAC advisory board helps to translate EPA priorities into priorities for the Southeast and provides strategic guidance in developing the RFP and evaluating the proposals. This cycle’s funding priorities are: • Small Public Water System Security • Training and Technology Transfer • Capacity Development • Source Water Protection Implementation • Distribution System Operation and • Maintenance

  15. Technology SE-TAC has funded 28 competitive projects since its establishment in September 2002. More than $900,000 in SE-TAC awards have generated over $1 million in matching support. In addition, 12 demonstration projects developed and implemented by state water resources research institutes received SE-TAC funding. http://www.gri.msstate.edu/se-tac

  16. Training • SE-TAC’s mission is to build partnerships among water utility organizations, state primacy agencies, technical assistance providers, and universities throughout the Southeastern Region of the United States to protect public health by enhancing small water systems’ capacity to protect and provide safe drinking water. • Completed projects include: • Development of D-Well Correspondence/ • Internet Course • Technical Literature to Assist Rural Churches • Cross-Connection Issues Training • Preventing Bacterial and Pesticide Contamination • Training • Customized Mobile Classroom • Energy Efficiency in Water Utilities • Strategic Management Training • Planning for Regional Water Source Alternatives • Computer Capacity Development Training
