  1. Presentation3 Group 2 Presenters: Kyle Dick, Anakizi Ackla, and Stefan Swan

  2. Parts List for Hovercraft

  3. Design Analysis • Lightweight Plexi-glass material deck • Two low voltage high power blow dryer fans for propulsion fans • One blow dryer fan for lift fan • Safety enclosure to protect others from fan blades • Ultra thin heavy duty polymer bag as skirt • Set screw bolts to secure the skirt to the deck • Differential sensor

  4. What Has Worked:Many of our predictions of materials to use and methods of how to propel the hovercraft have been successful.

  5. Sealing method has proved to be successful

  6. Complete List of What Has Worked • Sealing method has proved to be successful • Drive fans provide enough power to move hovercraft • Lift fan can develop enough pressure to lift hovercraft • Replaceable sealer to prevent leaks (Duct tape) • Differential sensors • Plastic stand to elevate fan off of ground

  7. What Hasn’t Worked:We have experimented with many different types of materials and methods that have proved to be unsuccessful.

  8. Fan placement in the center hasn’t worked

  9. Original Fan Choice hasn’t worked

  10. Quantity of Holes and Hole placement hasn’t worked

  11. Complete list of What Hasn’t Worked • Fan placement • Original fan choice • Quantity of holes and hole placement • Lift initiation problems • Initial solution restricted lift • Running the fans backwards • Light Duty Trash bag • Putting the diodes backwards

  12. Recent Improvements • Relocated fans to the rear of the hovercraft • Made bigger holes to reduce friction • Created plastic stand to allow fan to lift initially • Made holes in plastic stand to allow flow and create lift • Ran the fans forward • Used a Heavy Duty Trash Bag • Set up the diodes in the correct direction

  13. Time Table-Are We on Track?

  14. Managing Our Time • We have been keeping up with our weekly meetings where we work on our presentations and any major problems concerning the hovercraft • Continue to meet in class to work on the hovercraft, including skirt and body construction and wiring of the circuit • Finished the construction of deck and skirt as planned • Working on wiring and programming with Robolab

  15. Plans for 5/1/06 • We plan to test some more with the heavy duty garbage bag, but plan on obtaining rubber to make a strong and durable skirt (sealed with bolts) • The programming group will work with Robolab and the RCX to write a program that will help the hovercraft navigate on the track line • Plan to have the placement of the fans and other parts firmly attached to the hovercraft • Test and place the light sensors on the hovercraft • Balance the hovercraft (including the RCX, axial and lift fans, battery supply, and sensors) to ensure proper steerage of the hovercraft

  16. Hovercraft Model

  17. Credits • Justin Hanacek: Helped Create PowerPoint, determined deck and skirt materials • Josh Balsam: Made CAD designs, helped create PowerPoint, determined deck and skirt materials • Stefan Swan: Helped Create PowerPoint, found the necessary fans, Presenter • Smita Patel: Typed PowerPoint,Helped Create PowerPoint, found necessary fans • Justin Coe: Helped Create PowerPoint, helped wire circuits • Kyle Dick: Helped Create PowerPoint, helped wire circuits, Presenter • Anakizi Ackla: Helped Create PowerPoint, found the necessary fans, Presenter • Curtis Sharkey: Helped Create PowerPoint, determined deck and skirt materials
