  2. KWL Chart • Using your KWL chart, reflect on your role as Learning Coach. • What do you already know? • What do you want to know? Remember to consider how quality coaching harmonizes learning expectations throughout our school system, and how coaching impacts students and teachers.

Leading Conversations around Performance Indicators Why do we coach? • Value investing in people • Improve teacher performance and student outcome Who do we coach? • New teachers • Teachers identified by their principals for support What do we coach? • Develop teachers through open and direct coaching language • Promote a culture of reflection, growth and collaboration • Clearly (sensitively) promote professional growth • Diagnose and assess to accelerate student learning and achievement • Motivate and invest in mentees to create and achieve personal learning

  6. Release Days • You are provided release time to devote concentrated support in the classroom mentoring teachers on your caseload. Coaches can request up to four (4) regular workdays (2 first semester and 2 second semester) according to the release day guidelines. Release Day Activities • Informal Observations • Walkthroughs • Modeling • High-Impact Strategies • Practice with Mentees

  7. Release Day Guidelines • Submit an Approved Absence Request form three weeks in advance through My Learning Plan. • You are responsible for requesting your substitute. • Time can be taken in half or full days. • An agenda must be submitted to your Principal and PIT Crew member 48 hours in advance.

  8. Learning Coach Needs Assessment Due to your PIT Crew member by August 14, 2013!

  9. Informal Scored Observations • Learning Coaches will complete 4 informal scored observations for the teachers they support. Date Ranges • Quarter 1: • August 12 – 23 • Quarter 2: • October 14 – 31 • Quarter 3: • January 6 – 22 • Quarter 4: • March 17 – 31

  10. Informal Scored Observations • The Informal Scored Observation Form is housed in My Learning Plan. • Note: Be sure to check “NA” in the rating boxes for rubrics you are not scoring (i.e., Librarian, School Counselor)
