  2. Creating A One Point Perspective Drawing

  3. Horizontal Line: Straight and flat across, parallel to the horizon. The opposite of vertical. The line where the sky and earth appear or meet.

  4. Vanishing Point The Horizon Line is the place where the ground and the sky seem to meet. In one-point perspective the Vanishing Point, represented as a blue dot in this picture, is always on the Horizon Line. As things get closer to the Vanishing Point they get smaller and smaller until they appear to vanish.

  5. Orthogonal/Converging lines The light blue lines that meet at the vanishing point are called orthogonal or converging. They represent receding parallel lines.

  6. Vertical Line Straight up and down; the opposite of (or perpendicular to) horizontal. Suggests strength and stability.

  7. Erase Converging Lines

  10. Impressionist Artists Example Gustavo Caillebotte:1848 –1894) was a French painter member and patron of the group of artists known as Impressionists though he painted in a much more realistic manner than many other artists in the group. Caillebotteis best known for his paintings of urban Paris, such as The Bridge 'De l'Europe' (1876), and Paris Street; Rainy Day(1877).

  11. Gustavo Caillebotte, Example of Perspective Painting Many of his urban paintings were quite controversial due to their exaggerated, plunging perspective. For example with the painting, Paris Street; Rainy Day(1877).

  12. Assignments 1 & 2 • Assignment #1: Let's draw a box using one-point perspective. Using white scratch paper, first draw a horizon line about one-third down your page. Mark a spot roughly in the middle of the line. That's your vanishing point. • Now, draw a rectangle about two-thirds down the page, roughly in the middle. Lightly draw lines from the top two corners to the vanishing point. • Assignment #2: Now take the same skills that you used in assignment #1 to create a One Point Perspective Drawing of your choice on a 12” X 18” white drawing paper, you must fill the whole page to complete this assignment. You cane create anything from a city scene to something in nature, also if you chose to use some type of lettering to illustrate this skills that would be great! Have fun creating!!
