  2. SMT • Support from the start! • SU input at Staff Development day – got SMT and staff behind the initiative • Time!

  3. Promoting the role • Presentations to: • Academic Board • Business Advisory Group • Working closely with QA Director, myself and Science SLC, to develop: • New initiatives • New SLCs in the college • Working lunches!

  4. Blackboard • Designated Business SU site containing: • Announcements • Materials • Discussion Forums • Resources • Shared staff resources • Links

  5. Workshops To date: • Workshops run for business & computing staff • Use of staff to assist in facilitation of other workshops • Positive feedback: collegiality, new materials, sharing resources, etc • Negative feedback: timing of workshop sessions, time to develop/amend materials • Overcome by: • quality of materials; and • my own enthusiasm!

  6. Individuals are now requesting coaching assistance in respect of: Other staff Materials / resource development Ideas and classroom activities Observation/feedback from lessons: Students enjoyed the sessions AND Teachers enjoyed the sessions Coaching

  7. Initial: Why her? Cynicism More work for us! Another initiative Resentment at attending workshops During and after workshops: Active participation Lots of discussion and expert advice! Keen to try activities Impact

  8. Impacts: • Teaching staff: • More pro-active • Requests for information/activities/help • Lessons more fun! • Learners: • Lessons more enjoyable • Active learning opportunities • More fun! • Motivational !?!

  9. Coaching – Cascading techniques and skills • Coaching techniques to be cascaded to other members of team. • Starting with three members of faculty, development of: • Key coaching techniques /skills • Raising profiles through facilitation at workshops and staff development days

  10. STAR Award Nomination 2005 Huge honour to be nominated for a STAR Award by my college Category: Learning and Skills Subject Learning Coach of the Year (sponsored by a consortium led by the LSDA). Short-listed to final three!

Where next…..? • Continue to develop links with other faculties and staff • Build on-going relationships: • Within my institution • With other institutions • Within the SLC workshops and network events • Improve the experience of teaching and learning • Develop coaching skills in others. • Be a ‘Conduit for Change’!
