  2. Line • A path of a moving point (A dot that took a walk) • LINE VARIETY: thick, thin, dotted, solid, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, straight, zig-zag, curvy • Contour Lines/ Outlines

  3. Descriptive Line • Lines that help us understand what we are seeing. • Include OUTLINES, CONTOUR LINES, HATCHING.

  4. Implied Line • Lines that SUGGEST a edge rather than clearly defining one. • Implied lines occur where textures, colors, and values change at edges of shapes in artwork.

  5. Expressive Line • Lines that send us messages about what the artist wants their work to make the viewer feel. • Abstract lines, which are expressive, may not show us objects we recognize but can still create a feeling in us.

  9. Implied Line Exercise • Lightly in pencil trace your hand/wrist. • Create horizontal lines, (carry pencil all the way across paper), when you reach the hand create a curve, then continue straight line.
