  2. Monday 11/9 Power Words DLP “Who is going to a new school?” the teacher asked. “It is me,” Ernesto wrote in the composition. Mrs. Dodson, a neighbor, told Ernesto how to find the lincoln school. • Aesthetic • Pleasing in appearance; attractive • Most visual art is aesthetic • acrimony • Harsh or biting sharpness especially of words, manner, or disposition • The acrimony between some of my students is indefensible! • Limpid • Absolutely serene and untroubled • In the poem Highwayman, Bess’s eyes are not limpid.

  3. Tuesday 11/10 Power Words DLP Friends in the barrio explained the school rules. Miss Hopley sat at a roll top desk and smiled wholeheartedly. • Capitulate • To surrender often after negotiation of terms. • What Robert E. Lee did in the Civil War was to capitulate. • Chicanery • Deception by artful subterfuge or sophistry; trickery • Chicanery is when I see you talking, but you say to me, “I wasn’t talking”; in other words Chicanery is equivalent to lying. • Fiasco • A complete failure • When you use chicanery, it is usually a fiasco because I believe my eyes , not your statement.

  4. Thursday 11/12 Power Words DLP Ernesto enjoyed his studies. And he like his teachers. Learning english, as well as getting used to a new country, takes time. • Obnoxious • Disgustingly objectionable • Sometimes your chicanery is obnoxious, especially when you say OMG!. • Fulsome • Generous in amount, extent, or spirit • The passengers were fulsome in praise of the plane’s crew.

  5. Friday 11/13 Power Words DLP The first part of my story outline looked like this: I. Facts about Barrio Boy A. family B. school 2.”Well, I don’t know if I want to be a teacher” said Ernesto. • Furtive • Obtained unde3rhandedly; stolen • Furtive gain is always ill gotten gain. • Gamut • An entire range or series; range • At the end of the quarter we will have run the full gamut of Drama.
