  1. Schoolwide Enrichment Model • Laurel Mountain Elementary (LME) cultivates the individual gifts and talents of every child through the implementation of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM). SEM provides teachers with tools and methods that support their ability to: • discover your child’s preferred learning style, • focus on each child’s individual strengths, • emphasize self-esteem, and • encourage independent critical thinking.

  2. Daily Classroom Integration This enrichment program is embedded in all classrooms and practiced every day by every student. The SEM components that affect your child in the classroom every day include: • LEGO Educational Kits • LEGO WeDo Kits • Simple Machines LEGO Kits • NXT LEGO Mindstorm Kits • Longhorn Garden • Edible Garden • Nature Preserve • Independent Investigative Method (IIM) • Compacting Math Enrichment • Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS) • KIDS Kits • Renzulli Learning System • Total Talent Portfolio • Service Learning Projects • Philanthropy Mentoring Program • Special Speakers and Community Resources • Professional Development for Staff • Collaboration Resource for Teachers & Students • Enrichment Clusters • Enrichment Slot (E-Slot)

Educational Value SEM provides a first-rate academic experience and the foundation for our children’s education by: • emphasizing their interests • increasing knowledge • gaining an understanding of how the community and world works The value for the parent also is quite significant: • Parents have a variety of resources and tools to understand and motivate their child • Knowing their child’s interests and preferred learning styles provides a wonderful framework to encourage endless learning opportunities together
