  3. 1 INTRODUCTION • Transport performance indicator is very important • can not define the overall performance of our transportation system • transportation problems can not be well identified • transportation remedial and development measure can only be established hardly and vaguely • This resulted to different items of indicators which hardly can be uniform and standard • The objective of the workshop is to develop general transport performance indicators

  5. 21 General • Indonesia is one of two archipelago countries in Southeast Asia, • located between Pacific and Indian Ocean • between Asia and Australia. • 18.110 islands, • total area of 9.800.000 km2, • land area of 1.890.754 km2 • sea area of 7.900.000 km2. • divided into 33 provinces.

  7. 22 Socio Economic • Population (2002) • population of Indonesia is 202.717.418. • density is 107 person/ km2. • growth 0.88 % per annum in average. • not well distributed among different islands • density vary from 7,000 – 12,000 person/ km2 across the six Javanese provinces. • Irian is the emptiest island with an average density of only around 6 person/ km2. • Economics (2000) • Total Gross National Product (GNP) US $ 135.177 million. • average GNP per capita of US $ 613

  20. 512 Standard Value It is important to have certain minimum values or average values as standard performance value to against which each performance level could be judged.

  22. 514 Coverage • Should cover different aspects : - infrastructure - services - demand - tariff and purchasing power - safety and security - financial aspect - managerial aspect - institutional aspect, etc.

  23. 515 Performance Requirement • To be good, transport performance indicators have to • represent key indicator of transport quality • be simple • be clear • be easy to collect or established.

  24. 516 Type & Program • might be classified into basic indicators and more details indicators. • Basic indicators are a set of indicators of the most important and basic in representative nature. • Nationwide basic transport performance should be established systematically, regularly, step by step.
