  1. 6th Grade Math Mrs. Nicole Latuszek Room 325 Lewis Middle School

  2. Credentials • Multiple Subjects Credential with a supplementary Authorization in Mathematics from San Diego State University 2003 • Masters in Mathematics Education from San Diego State University 2008 • Nine years of Mathematics teaching experience • 2 years of 8th grade • 7 years of 6th grade • I have a real passion for what I do!

  3. Warm Ups • Spiral the curriculum • Revisit topics again and again for increased development and understanding • Students get the warm up on Monday, we do five problems per day though Thursday. • 10 problems per day for my Period 1 class. • Quiz on Friday • I choose 10 of my favorite problems off of the warm up from the week and students take a test on those. • Bonus Problem • Acts as extra credit. Helps but doesn’t hurt. • Has the largest impact on students overall grade. • Good warm up quiz scores=good math grade.

  4. Homework • Assigned everyday • Students should work for between 20-30 minutes per night. • If your child does not finish the assignment in that time and you have seen that he/she has put genuine effort into completing the task, you may write me a small note in their planner indicating this and I will give them full credit. • Students MUST SHOW THEIR WORK to earn credit for their assignments.

  5. Accelerated Math- accmath • Practice program for developing procedural fluency • For students who have a good command of the current mathematics and only need opportunities to improve speed and fluency • Ask to see TOPS report- look at mastered objectives • Need 2 per week • Check calendar on my website to see what is required • Students will work on AccMath during Advisory(30 minutes) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are welcome to work on it at home as well.

  6. Learning Upgrade- LU • Online program design to engage and teach • For students who need a little guidance and further support in developing their current mathematical understandings • Students need to pass 2 levels per week. • See the calendar on my web site to find out where students should be. • Students will work on LU during Advisory (30 minutes) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are welcome to work on it at home as well.

  7. What can you do to help your student be successful? • Check that they are completing their homework daily • ask to see it, check it to see if it is completed correctly • Encourage them to study for the Warm-Up Quizzes • Ask to see their Friday Warm UP Quizzes on Monday when they are returned to them. • Give them feedback on their test results • Reward good scores • Encourage them to ask more questions during class.

  8. Encourage them to keep up on their accelerated math and learning upgrade progress • Use my webpage as a resource • Posted homework assignments • Video tutorials • Keep connected using Parent Connect • Stay in touch with me via e-mail • Get them a tutor • I hear good things about Mathnasium. • I am here Tuesday-Thursdays until 3:30 to help with homework.
