  2. This Term our major assignments will center on the idea of starting your own business. Think about what it would take to start a business and what kind of business you might like to be involved with.

  3. Why would you want to start a Business? • Freedom from 9-5 daily work routine • Being your own boss • Doing what you want when you want to do it • Improving your standard of living • Boredom with your present job • Having a product or service that you believe in

  4. What kind of person would own their own business? • Are you a leader? • Do you like to make your own decision? • Do others turn to you for help in making decisions? • Do you enjoy competition? • Do you have will power and self discipline? • Do you plan ahead? • Do you like people? • Do you get along well with others?

Do you know? • Did you know that running your own business may require working 12-16 hours a day, six days a week? • Do you have the physical stamina to handle the workload and schedule? • Do you have the emotional strength to withstand the strain? • Are you prepared to temporarily lower your standard of living until your business is firmly established? • Is your family prepared to go along with the strains that they too must bear?

  6. Every Business is based on a product and / or Service ….. Think of examples of a business based on a product ….. Think of examples of a business based on a service …..

  7. Think past the product / service of your business ….. • Who will your customers be? • Do you understand their needs and desires? • Where do your customers live? • Will you be offering the kinds of products and/or services they will want or need? • Will your prices be competitive? • How does your business compare with your competitors?

  8. Your Assignment Will Be ….. • To develop the concept of a business of your choice ….. • Your business will be in the year 2075 • Your business will be on a space colony on the planet Mars

A Name for the Business • A Brief description of the product and / or service • How will the product or service benefit the customer • How will the product or service be different from what is already available • What products or services do your customers need at this time. Your First assignment will be to create a description of your business …..

  10. Graphics. . . . • Create a Logo for your business • Create a set of 10 business cards that represent your position with the business • Create a 1 page advertisement for a special sale / event connected with your business.

  11. Word Processing (cont.) . . . . • Using the information from your business description – Create a pamphlet to introduce you business to new customers, a chamber of commerce, etc. • Create a 1 page advertisement for a special sale / event connected with your business.

  12. Data Base . . . . • Create a file that would track specific information about your employees • Combine the Data Base with your advertisement to create a mail merge mailing for your business

  13. Spreadsheet . . . . • Create a file that would track your inventory costs vs. prices and calculate the overall profit your company is making

  14. Multimedia. . . . • Create a presentation using text, graphics, and animations about some element of your business.
