  2. Lady Indian Softball On Friday May 3 the Gilbert Lady Indians defeated Georgetown by a score of 10 to 0 to win the District 5 championship.  Gabby Keisler was the winning pitcher. Top hitters were: Savannah Anderson - 2 for 3; Emily Jones - 2 for 3; Gibson Westfall - 2 for 3; Lyndie Dorgan - 3 for 3   Last night the Lady Indians won the opening game of the Lower State finals with a 7 to 0 win over Darlington.  Lyndie Dorgan pitched a no hitter while picking up her 14th win of the season. Top hitters were: Jenna Williams  - 3 for 4; Gabby Keisler - 3 for 4 (2  home runs); The Lady Indians record stands at 20 and 10.  The defending AAA state champions, Hartsville, will visit Gilbert on Wednesday.  Game time is 6:00.

  3. FFA Forestry Competition Congrats to our FFA Chapter who participated in the SCFFA State Forestry CDE this past weekend.  Our team placed 1st in the event. Team members include: Rodney Barnes, Christian Black, Tyler Lawson, Courtlyn Myers, and Caleb Taylor.  Caleb Taylor placed 2nd overall while Christian Black placed 1st overall.

  4. Congratulations to… …Omar Bethea who qualified Saturday at the AAA State Qualifier to compete in Boys Discus at the State Competition this coming Friday night! Great job, Omar and Good Luck at State!

  5. Attention Football Players! Football spring practice will be held next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 until 5:00.  Please bring t-shirt, shorts and cleats.

  8. GHS Volleyball Volleyball spring practice for JV and Varsity will be held May 6-9 and 13-16 at GHS from 3:30-5:30. Any participant must have a current physical and medical consent form. Contact Coach Shealy or Coach Hendrix for questions.

  9. GHS Golf Update The GHS Varsity golf team finished third in a field of 16 teams at lower state in Myrtle Beach on Monday.  The team shot an excellent round of 318 in very difficult conditions, allowing them to advance to the state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Coastal Carolina University’s Hackler Course.  Caleb Proveaux led the Indians with a 77. Congratulations to the team on a great effort.

  10. Reminder from the Athletic Office Playoff Games will only accept SC High School League Passes for free admittance.  Tickets will be $5.00 each.  No booster club or district passes are allowed. 

  11. GHS 2013-2014 Cheerleading Tryouts for Football Cheerleading will be held on May 7, 9, and 10. Next year, GHS will not have a competition team. We are looking for enthusiastic, spirited young ladies who are interested in representing GHS with pride. If you are interested in trying out for JV or varsity cheerleading, you must have a tryout packet completed and returned to Coach Newman in 410 or Coach Rogers in 224 by May 3. You must have a current physical in order to attend tryouts. Your physical must be on file with the athletic department—either from having participated in sports this year or by having a school physical this spring.

  12. Student Trainers Anyone interested in becoming a student trainer for the 2013-2014 school year please stop by and pick up an information packet from Coach Millwood in Room 525.  Student training packets are due back by May 11th.

  13. Attention Seniors Do YOU have perfect attendance for your 12 years of high school? Well, then you may be eligible for a Perfect Attendance Award! Each year, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) honors graduating seniors who have 12 years of perfect attendance with a special certificate and personal letter signed by the State Superintendent of Education. If you think you are eligible, then see Mrs. Smith in attendance to apply for this recognition.
