SupaSpex is a groundbreaking mobile app integrated with special glasses designed for firefighters. These glasses utilize infrared technology to see through smoke, enabling firemen to detect individuals trapped in burning buildings. Featuring a heads-up display, SupaSpex provides crucial information including emergency alerts, the number of residents from electoral role data, and maps of the house from planning databases. With adjustable soft neoprene frames and shock-resistant lenses, SupaSpex enhances safety and efficiency, significantly reducing casualties in fire emergencies.

Our Brief “Design a mobile app to detect people in a burning building”
Our Design Proposal • Special glasses worn by the fireman under his breathing apparatus • Detects infra-red – so can see through smoke to where the people are • Has a ‘heads-up’ display of important information on the lens • Emergency warnings • Number of people who live in the house – from a link to the electoral role database • Map of the house – from the council planning database
Key Features • This is a unique product for the emergency services, but uses technologies that are being developed for the army and in the IT industry • Will reduce deaths and injuries: currently building fires cause over 400 people deaths and 12,000 injuries each year • Adjustable frames made from soft neoprene fit comfortably for any user and mould to the face to stop smoke getting in the eyes • Lenses are shock resistant and heat resistant • Infra-red vision from integrated electronics • Heads up display from mini laser projector • Information from links to the electoral roll and planning databases • Easy to use – doesn’t need changes to existing equipment
