The article focuses on how strategies such as inclusive education, standards-based goal writing and instruction and differentiated instruction are developed to make the partnership as success. TEACHing Exceptional Children, 36(5), pp. 52-58 • As the title states, the authors present strategies that will assist teachers in making co-teaching successful. They present tips on preparing to co-teach and how to construct roles and expectations in the areas of planning, instruction and assessment.

  4. Tools: Checklists to share with class • Checklist #1: Preparing to co-teach & Topics for co-teachers to discuss. Goal: To help teachers prepare for co-teaching and to gain a better understanding of their professional goals. Example of learning objective: Teachers will read and discuss “Prepare to co-teach” and complete “Topics for co-teaching” handout by answering 10 questions in one hour. • Checklist #2: Roles and responsibilities: Who is doing what? Goal: To further expand teachers’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities, to offer more comprehensive understanding of co-teaching Use this as a discussion tool to gain an idea of teachers’ unique and overlapping roles (special ed. vs. regular education).
