  8. Our Academic Experts 6 Gerry Knowles was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and undertook postgraduate studies at Edinburgh University before taking his PhD at the University of Leeds. He has taught at the Universities of Hull, Queen's University Belfast, and Lancaster University. He has a long-standing interest in Asia, and spent 2002-3 as professor in the English Department at the University of Malaya. His current research interests include the uses of the computer for the study of Asian languages and Asian varieties of English, and in the development of new technologies for the teaching of English in Asia.
