What are the 5 categories of commercial radio stations • National commercial radio • National brands- regional stations collected into networks • Independent radio- specific to a certain area and are not part of a network group • Community radio stations- produce content to interest local people • Hospital radio- stations based in hospitals normally run by volunteers

  4. What is the bbc • It is funded by the public through television text and is used to create many different media formats for all audiences to enjoy • The bbc promotes its stations and chennels by promotional films, magazines

  6. What is scheduling in the bbc • There are breakfast shows for radio 1 and 2 and LNWH for others and they are all stripped across the day

  7. Who regulates the television and broadcasting • Ofcom regulate radio stations • The role of this regulator is to stop harmful and offensive behaviour and make sure there are stations to serve all audiences

Audience appeal factors • The blind medium-audience can use their imagination • The companion medium- provides a stong sense of communicaton compared to other mediums • The intimate medium- very personal and encourages direct mode of address. • Undemanding medium- you can carry out other tasks at the same time as doing this unlike TV

How does LNWH appeal to audiences • The presenter is young and is not stereotypical • Language and mode of address is aimed at younger female audiences • Constructed to be of interest to the target group • The audience is constructed through the station • It is available across a range of platforms • The social and cultural context refers to the knowing need to cater for young women in society and the topics discussed are ones that reflect upon issues women face today.
