  3. Referencing shows that you are academically honest • Referencing enables an interesting reader to find out more about what you have written • Referencing means that a teacher can check the accuracy of what you have written

  4. Importantly... You will fail your exams if you don’t reference properly. But you will pass your exams if you DO reference properly.

  5. How to Reference At Patana we use Harvard Referencing Everything you need to know about referencing is available on our library website. We also have hard copies of this booklet available in the library.

  6. Quick Tips - Citations In any assignment if you use someone else’s idea you must cite it. For example: Flint (2011) states that students at Bangkok Patana School are becoming increasingly talented at referencing accurately. OR “Students at Bangkok Patana School are becoming increasingly talented at referencing accurately.” (Flint, 2011)

  7. Reference Lists and Bibliographies • These go at the end of the assignment. A reference list contains the work of all the people that you have cited. • A bibliography is a list of all the reading you have completed for the assignment.

  8. Referencing from a Book • Author • Author’s initials • Date Published • Book Title • Edition (if not 1st) • Place Published • Publisher

  9. Referencing from a Website • Author if possible • Year of publication if possible, if unavailable leave it blank • Title of the webpage (Italics) • [online] That is what you actually write • Date you looked at the website • Available from: You write Available from: and include the URL
