  3. Welcome to The Schoolhouse Surgery • 4600 Patients • 3 GP Partners (1 full time and 2 part time) plus a Registrar and an FY2 doctor • 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Health Care Assistant,1 Phlebotomist • 12 Administration Staff (mainly part time)

  4. Attached Staff • 3 District Nurses & 1 Nurse Auxiliary • 1 Health Visitor & 1 Nursery Nurse • Midwifery Team • Physiotherapist • Optometrist • Podiatrist • Medicines Management Team

  5. Some Figures • The GPs provided 14801 appts. Nov 2010 - Nov 2011(face to face,home visits & telephone). An appointment is 10 mins. • The nurses provided 3577 appts. Nov 2010–Nov 2011 (face to face and telephone). An appointment varies from 10-30 mins • There were 743 DNAs ( patients who “Did Not Attend” their booked appt ) between Nov 2010 and Nov 2011 • We prescribed 79,056 items in one year 2010-11 (282 items each working day) at a cost of £729,429 • Our prescribing budget for 2010-11 was £656,985 which means we were overspent by £72,444 • Our referral budget for 2010 – 2011 was £1,793,119. We spent £2,158,445, which means we were overspent by £365,336 ( 20.37% )

In Addition • We are a GP training practice • We spent £23,000 of our own money on extra doctors last year to help provide a better, quicker service. • We are open 8am to 7.30pm on Mondays (for booked appointments, prescriptions and appointment booking) & 8am to 6.30pm Tuesday to Friday. • We are actively involved in the new Commissioning Group for Eastern Cheshire which includes Bollington Medical Centre, Priorslegh & Mcilvride in Poynton.

  7. What is a PPG? • Patient Participation Group, PPG is a group of volunteers looking to support the practice to provide the best services possible for the whole patient population. • The main functions for this group are • Run by patients to both inform the practice and the patients • Looking at issues in a way that finds solutions • Support and get involved in information gathering and understanding eg. surveys • Fund raising for items outside of the NHS remit • Provide patient support advice and services • The role can have some, all or more responsibility, it is up to you

Ground Rules • This meeting is not a forum for individual complaints and single issues, nor is it a “doctors’ fan club “ • We advocate open and honest communication and challenge between individuals. • We will be flexible, listen, ask for help and support each other. • We will demonstrate a commitment to delivering results, as a group. • Silence indicates agreement – speak up, but always go through the chair. • All views are valid and will be listened to. • No phones or other disruptions. • We will start and finish on time and stick to the agenda.

  9. Today • Look at the Terms of Reference & Code of Conduct ( handouts ) • Volunteers for posts of Chairperson, Vice Chair, Secretary. • Open to all registered patients to observe, comment or join us as a member • Communication to the practice population ? • A practice survey

Practice Survey 2011 ? • A practice assessment questionnaire ? • Continuity of results • Approx 100 anonymous questionnaires • Handed to patients before appts. by PPG members • Early Jan 2012 - am/pm sessions to be decided by PPG members • Advertise the sessions • Collate results & set priorities to move forward
