  6. Complete separation of user and GARR control and management planes [MAIN GOAL] Dinamically establish high capacity interconnections between user premises (DC) Provide interconnections self-management tools to the users DC/Transport Network integreted load and failure mangement GARR (transport) network controller/orchestrator provisioning/monitoring/accounting performance/fault management tools User (DC) controller provisioning/monitoring/accounting performance/fault management tools Vendor controller USE CASE GARR - ELISA: High Capacity on demand Actors Problem Statement Solution Architecture/Diagram (e.g.) • A: DC operators manually (?) ask for resources through a transport network interface (web/transport nms access) • B:DC controller interacts with transport network through a network controller/orchestrator NBI • C: DC App interacts with transport network through a network controller/orchestrator NBI MC // Kickoff Meeting IDDLS // Roma, 24/01/2019

  7. USE CASE: DCI over R&E European Infrastructure AW - GEANTDWDM network domain • Description: interconnection between 2 DC over multi-domain DWDM Networks (NREN + GEANT) • Prerequisites: • - GEANT community is discussing feasibility of Spectrum Connection Service over the pan-European network • - AW capable NREN dwdm network • - DCI boxes • CNAF CERN seems to be a perfect candidate • Develop this USE Case according to the IDDLS platform should be an added value. DC Z AW - GARR DWDM network domain DC A MC // Kickoff Meeting IDDLS // Roma, 24/01/2019

  8. GOAL • GARR is investigating Data Center Interconnection Technologies to match the following use cases: • Data Center Stretching on a Wide Area Network • DCI based link over a 50GHz fixed grid network in Alien Wave mode • Reconfigurable and Programmable High Bandwidth on demand • DWDM Packet Layer integration DC oriented (e.g. Ethernet, VXLAN, spine-leaf architecture optimization) • DWDM Packet Layer integration Transport oriented (e.g. IP/MPLS, Segment Routing, Label Switched Router) MC // Kickoff Meeting IDDLS // Roma, 24/01/2019

  9. Topology Day1: Data Center Interconnection • Topological requirements: • DWDM network interfaces • Alien Wave signals over DWDM network • Single or multiple devices • Client traffico protection over a Ring Topology • 10GEth/100GEth client support Core Node2 1200km 300km 200Gbps 400Gbps 200Gbps Core Node1 Core Node3 600km MC // Kickoff Meeting IDDLS // Roma, 24/01/2019

  10. Main Requirements • PKT integration (L2-L3) • IP/MPLS feature support • DWDM Long Haul reach • Tunable optics • Flex-Modulation • Alien Wave over legacy DWDM (50GHz) • Optical Performance monitoring • API • Programmable • NBI for performance retrieval • 3rd party NMS integration • Low footprint • Low power consumption • Scalable MC // Kickoff Meeting IDDLS // Roma, 24/01/2019
