Patron not cleared status: It is crucial that requests are not worked on until the patron is cleared in the ILLiad system by myself, Jennifer Block or Don Simon. As the uncleared patrons are new to the ILLiad system and we (Myself, Jennifer or Don) have to verify their eligibility. Example: Request for: Bob Smith (Patron not cleared) User Notes: Please remember to check all User notes. We (Myself, Jennifer or Don) will add user notes into this field to show Faculty eligibility and their end dates.
Awaiting Patron Response: Follow up on any Awaiting Patron response requests that have been in the queue for over a week. Send a follow up email asking if the item is still needed. If no response from the patron, cancel the request with the “Lack of reply to request additional information….” email.
Note Field: Please make sure to enter notes into the note field of the request. It helps Firestone Article Express, Interlibrary Loan and other branch staff to know the stages of processing on the request. ISSN Field: Please remember to enter the ISSN/ISBN and/or the OCLC number into the ILLiad request. This helps Firestone Article Express and Interlibrary loan to find the correct serial or book needed if PUL and vendor do not own. To find the ISSN/ISBN and OCLC number go to Worldcat First Search from the Princeton University Library homepage.
Click on Catalogs: PUL & Other Go to Global Catalogs and click WorldCat Paste your title and click search.
A list of possible choices will be shown. Double click on the title that matches to show the full record. Copy and paste the ISSN/ISBN and the OCLC into the ILLiad request and click save.
Odyssey Requests when Uploading from Ariel: Odyssey, ILLiad's new integrated document-delivery feature, allows staff to send and receive documents from other ILLiad or Odyssey users. When uploading Ariel’s from outside vendors or Rapid into ILLiad, Odyssey requests may filter in as well. What do you do when that occurs? Take note of the Transaction number Quality control the document Check the document for any problems Deliver the document to the patron If problems occur contact ILS at ilsborr@princeton.edu or call 258-3272 The next two slides will show you the Awaiting Odyssey processing queue and an example of an Odyssey request uploading into ILLiad.
Faculty Categories Firestone serves the following categories for Faculty: Faculty/Retired Faculty Visiting Faculty Visiting Lecturer Post – Doc. Fellow: Teaching Research Scholar Sr. Research Scholar Sr. Professional Specialist Branch Libraries serve other clientele such as Graduates, Undergraduates, Faculty Assistants, Seniors, Staff and Visiting fellows. Please check to make sure the Branch or Firestone handles requests from those categories before sending out the pull slip. If your library does not serve that clientele send the request back to the branch queue it was sent from with the reason patron category not served at this location.
Trade Secrets for Scanning Canon Color Scanner DR-7080c
Questions you may have but are not sure how to solve: • Why does the document take so long to open after scanning is completed? • Why do I have to keep clicking next on the computer when scanning? • Do you wonder how to reduce or eliminate the black line in the middle of a two page scan? • How do I set the feeder to scan all the pages without pausing in between each page? Answer: Setting the User preferences
Why does the document take so long to open after scanning is completed? Most likely the “Recognize Text Using OCR” is checked. OCR Means : Optical character recognition, usually abbreviated to OCR, is the mechanical or electronic translation of images of handwritten, typewritten or printed text (usually captured by a scanner) into machine-editable text.
Why do I have to keep clicking next on the computer when scanning? The default preferences are seen here. To avoid having to go back and forth between the computer and scanner you will need to set your “User preferences”.
Stopping the Back and Forth By changing a few options on the scanning menu you solve the problem of the Back and Forth between the scanner and computer. Default Scanning Menu Panel-Feeding=Flatbed of the scanner
Do you wonder how to reduce or eliminate the black line in the middle of a two page scan? Page size has been set to B4 (JIS) Brightness has been set to 200+ Scanning side: Select Auto Feeding option: Panel-Feeding Scanning Option: Scan Ahead
Tight binding scan Scan done with out brightness changed Scan done with brightness changed
Discolored pages scan Many of you have run into this problem where the page is discolored and the scan is just not coming out clear enough. Just by changing the brightness solves the problem.
Look at the drastic difference between both scans. Just a little change makes all the difference in a clean, clear scan.
How do I set the feeder to scan all the pages without pausing in between each page? Just by setting the “User Preferences” as seen here, will make feeder scanning so much faster and efficient.
