Then, copy and answer the questions. Great Britain had colonies in North America for more than 150 years. During that time the colonists had considerable (a lot) experience governing themselves. Why did the colonists have the rights of Englishmen? How did the British government try to tighten control of the colonists?

What might be a problem with this? -After the Declaration of Independence was signed the colonies became states and were free and independent. -each state had to create their own government. -protect their basic rights -promote common good -used ideas learned from political philosophy and their own experiences with colonial and British government.
