What is construction technology? • Construction technology is the design and building of structures • Structures are stationary systems designed as supports or shelters from the environment • Increase height (towers) • Span distances (bridges) • Provide shelter (buildings) • Provide support (roads, bridges, railways, canals, pipelines, etc.)

  3. Construction Systems • Inputs: People, materials, information, tools, etc. • Processes: Planning, preparation, construction, etc. • Outputs: Structures, Impacts on individuals, communities, & environment • Feedback: Accidents/disasters, consumer feedback

  4. Types of construction projects • Residential • Dwellings and outbuildings • Industrial • Facilities which are involved in production of goods • Commercial • Businesses • Public Works • Structures intended for public use (roadways, bridges, churches, schools, etc.)

  5. Types of Structures • Buildings • Towers • Bridges • Roads/Railways/Runways • Tunnels • Dams • Canals/Pipelines
