Summer Wrap-Up Seminar: MOVi-TV Project Progress in P2P-based Wireless VoD Services

The Summer Wrap-Up Seminar 2009 presented by Jungsik Yoon from GIST highlights the progress on the MOVi-TV project, focusing on segment scheduling for P2P-based wireless Video on Demand (VoD) services. The goal is to support multiple users with improved playback continuity by implementing a modified version of MOVi that can handle more than one content stream simultaneously. Key areas discussed include sender/receiver selection, scheduling methods, and future plans to address packet loss and improve multi-channel stability.

  1. [wrapup seminar] 2009 Summer wrap-up Jungsik Yoon jsyoon@nm.gist.ac.kr Networked Media LabDepartment of Information and CommunicationGwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) 2009. 8. 26

  2. Status Review • MS. 4thsemester • Research area • Segment Scheduling for P2P-based wireless VoD service • Project • MOVi-TV (Sep./2008~Jun./2010) • Segment scheduling • Publications • 1 domestic paper A priority-based segment scheduling in peer-to-peer-based wireless VoD, KSPC 2008

  3. Research Overview • Segment scheduling for MOVi • GoalSupport more many users with higher playback continuity • Need to choose • Sender/receiver • Segment • Time • Frequency 802.11 DS Downlink 802.11 Mobile Networks P2P link

  4. Progress • MOVi-TV project • Implement multiple contents supporting MOVi • Previous MOVi (ver 1.5) provides single content only • Modified MOVi can play more than 2 contents simultaneously • Because limited WLAN interfaces, it cannot support more VLC players than ones in single content version • Project report for 1st year • Writing interim project report • Prepared 1st year presentation • Group-based segment scheduling • Debug previous problem • Proposed method for toy scenario • Make a group with static hop numbers and RSSI value • Sort those groups in order of RBT deviation and segment population • A group, has higher priority, is scheduled at first

  5. Future plan • MOVi-TV Project • Multiple contents • Demonstration for 1st year project presentation • Need to be stabilized in multi-ch. Mode • Generalized multiple content distribution problem  paper work • 1st year report • Research • Using FEC • Transmit unit is a block, a fragmentation of segment(does not use encoding/decoding) • In P2P connection, packet loss sometimes happen (more than 5%) • From NASTE+ library, FEC can be adapted in MOVi • Group-based scheduling • Find out physical meaning of control parameters • Do paper work
