  1. My Brother Martin Review

  2. What genre is “My Brother Martin?” “My Brother Martin” is a biography. The story tells about a real person’s life, but is written by another person.

  3. In which person is “My Brother Martin” told? “My Brother Martin” is told in the first person point of view. I know this because the narrator uses words like “I” and “my,” and the narrator is in the story.

  4. Who is telling the story? “My Brother Martin” is being told by Martin’s sister. Her words show how much she respected her brother.

  5. What is the main purpose of this selection? The main purpose of “My Brother Martin” is to give information about events that took place in Martin Luther King, Jr.’s childhood.

  6. The King children were just like any other children. They liked to play jokes on people. What was their “best prank ever?” The “best prank ever” was when the children tied their grandmother’s fur piece to a stick and dangled it at people walking by.

  7. What does segregation mean? Segregation means to separate. In the past, black people were unfairly segregated from white people just because their skin was a different color.

  8. Give examples of unfair segregation laws told about in the story The story mentions “Whites Only” signs, hotels wouldn’t give black families rooms, restaurants wouldn’t serve them, there were parks and museums they weren’t allowed at, and some stores would only take care of blacks in the back.

  9. What does it mean when people say “practice what you preach?” “Practice what you preach” means that you should live up to your beliefs. It means you should follow your own advice and not just tell others what to do.
