  2. REDUCING A FACTION TO LOWER TERMS MEANS FINDING AN EQUAL FRACTION WITH A SMALLER NUMERATOR AND DENOMINATOR. • THE NUMERATOR AND DENOMINATOR OF A FRACTION ARE SOMETIMES CALLED TERMS.

  3. TO REDUCE A FRACTION, DIVIDE THE NUMERATOR AND THE DENOMINATOR BY THE SAME NUMBER. • THE FRACTION HAS BEEN REDUCED TO LOWEST TERMS WHEN NO NUMBER EXCEPT ONE WILL DIVIDE EVENLY INTO THE NUMERASTOR AND THE DENOMINATOR.

  4. 8 8 / 2 4 10 10 / 2 5 • THE NUMBER 2 WILL DIVIDE EVENLY INTO BOTH THE NUMERATOR AND THE DENOMINATOR. • REDUCE 8/10 TO LOWEST TERMS. = = • THE FRACTION 4/5 IS IN LOWEST TERMS BECAUSE NO NUMBER EXCEPT 1 WILL DIVIDE EVENLY INTO BOTH 4 AND 5.

  5. 4 5 8 10 • CHECK YOUR WORK BY CROSS- MULTIPLYING. 8 X 5 = 40 10 X 4 = 40 • THE FRATIONS 8/10 AND 4/5 ARE EQUAL FRACTIONS. THE END!!!
