  1. Lesson 13-6Pages 692-696 Graphing Quadratic and Cubic Functions

  2. What you will learn! • How to graph quadratic functions. • How to graph cubic functions.

  3. Vocabulary

  4. What you really need to know! To graph a quadratic or cubic function, make a table of values and plot the points.

  5. Example 1: Graph the function: y = -2x2

  6. Example 1b: Graph the function:

  7. Example 1c: Graph the function: y = -x2 – 3

  8. Example 2: The height of a triangle is 4 times its base. Write a formula for the area and graph it. Find the area of the triangle whose base is 3 units.

  9. Example 2: The area of a triangle is found by using ½bh. If h is 4b then; ½bh = ½b(4b) = 2b2

  10. Example 2: ½bh = ½b(4b) = 2b2 If the base is 3, then: 2(3)2 = 18 units2.

  11. Example 3: Graph the function:

  12. Example 3b: Graph the function: y = 2x3 + 2
