  1. Clearing Out the Inflammation © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org Systemic Enzyme Support with unique formulations (Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS)*, is able to control inflammation through a number of ways. This is a graphical presentation about how inflammation is controlled by clearing unwanted or excessive substances from the body. This presentation may be used for educational purpose only. Graphics are not to scale.

  2. Clearing Out the Inflammation The body also creates cytokines as a response to inflammation. Cytokines act as chemical messengers bring white blood cells to areas of inflammation. Some cytokines also increase inflammation (Th1), while others control inflammation (Th2). © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org Inflammation is the body’s attempt to remove dangerous substances. The body tries to get rid of dangerous foreign substances: bacteria, yeast, viruses, pollen or other allergen, etc. (These substances are called antigens because they cause the body to generate antibodies.) These antigens cause the body to release antibodies: They are Also called Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgE, IgA, IgM) If the immune system is imbalanced, it makes too many antibodies. If the amount of antibodies get excessive, they become dangerous These antibodies bind to antigens and create circulating immune complexes: Circulating immune Complexes (CICs) are elevated in a number of autoimmune conditions, infectious diseases, and cancers, as well as most immunologically mediated illnesses. They are noted in a number of conditions that adversely affect joint health, circulatory health, skin health, liver health, glucose health and heart health. Excessive circulating immune complexes can also be dangerous.

  3. Clearing Out the Inflammation Inflammation is the body’s attempt to remove dangerous substances. Fibrin is a fibrous protein involved in the clotting of blood. Excessive fibrin increases risks of clots in the brain and heart. Excessive fibrin can accumulate in tissue and inhibit healing, and it can also hide cancer cells from immune system. Amyloid is another fibrous protein that can accumulate in tissues and may playa role in a number of neurodegenerative diseases. C-Reactive Protein is another protein that becomes elevated with inflammation. Elevated levels are associated with increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. An increased Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate – clumping of red blood cells – is also noted during inflammation. These stacks, called rouleaux formations, are due in part to increased levels of fibrinogen, the protein that gets converted to fibrin. © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org In addition to foreign substances (bacteria, yeast, viruses, pollen or other allergen, etc), and the antibodies created to fight those substances, and the circulating immune complexes and the cytokines that are created when the antibodies and foreign substance bind to each other, there are other substances that must be cleared from the blood in order to control inflammation. Damaged proteins and parts of cells (debris): pieces of cells destroyed by infection or trauma proteins in the blood destroyed by oxidation proteins in the blood destroyed by glycosylation (too much sugar) This unwanted material is referred to as “debris” (wreckage, fragments, garbage).

  4. Clearing Out the Inflammation The ability of these inflammatory substances to move throughout the body at is why we can measure levels on these biomarkers of inflammation in the blood. It is also why we can use Systemic Enzyme Support (Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS ) to control inflammation by helping the immune system clear them out of the body. © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org These foreign substances (bacteria, yeast, viruses, pollen or other allergen, etc), antibodies, circulating immune complexes, cytokines, cellular debris, fibrin, amyloid, c-reactive protein, and rouleaux formations can move from one part of the body to other parts of the body.

  5. Clearing Out the Inflammation Systemic enzymes support with unique formulations of proteolytic enzymes (Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS) has been shown to decrease and normalize these biomarkers of inflammation. (see website or poster for references) RESTORATION OF HEALTHY BIOMARKERS Decreased Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate 32, 37, 73, 74, 76, 81 Decreased C-Reactive Protein Levels 45, 70, 81 Decreased Circulating Immune Complex Levels 15-23, 34 Normalization of Cytokine Levels 5, 22, 30, 68 Normalization of Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgE, IgA, IgM) 20, 51, 71 Restore Normal Fibrin levels & Activity 19, 37 Promote Amyloid breakdown7-12 References: www.SystemicEnzymeSupport.org © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org Collectively, foreign substances (bacteria, yeast, viruses, pollen or other allergen, etc), antibodies, circulating immune complexes, cytokines, cellular debris, fibrin, amyloid, c-reactive protein, and rouleaux formations perpetuate local inflammation and promote systemic inflammation disorders. Proteins which can be measured to determine the degree of inflammation are called “biomarkers of inflammation”. The biomarkers of inflammation are proteins that have to be cleared out.

  6. Clearing Out the Inflammation © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org One of the ways that Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS works is by activating large proteins in the blood called alph-2-macroglobulin (a2M). The enzymes in Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS cause the “fingers” of the a2M to fold over the enzymes and expose the central core of the a2M. The exposed center is the area that picks up excessive cytokines that cause immune system imbalance. The “activated a2M” also binds circulating immune complexes, cellular debris other unwanted material into its exposed area. This binding of unwanted substances allows them to be removed from both the circulatory system and from the spaces between cells where this debris would accumulate.

  7. Clearing Out the Inflammation Systemic enzyme support (Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PS) helps modulate (adjust, adapt) Th1 & Th2 cytokines and restores their ideal levels so that the immune system is balanced again. This modulation of the immune system – immunomodulation – allows the balanced immune system to resume its function of protecting the body and then initiating the healing process. With renewal of the normal immune system function, regenerative and healing processes are again allowed to take place.  © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org Studies have shown that activated a2M is able to remove unwanted substances from the blood very quickly. This clearing out of the unwanted substances is beneficial for both acute and chronic conditions.

  8. Clearing Out the Inflammation The cytokines act as chemical messengers to bring white blood cells to areas of inflammation. Macrophages in the circulatory system and in the spaces between cells are instructed to move to areas that have debris that needs to be cleaned up. Macrophages engulf, and then digest cellular debris, excessive cytokines, bacteria, yeast, viruses, pollen, other allergens, excessive antibodies and the excessive circulating immune complexes that have been captured by the activated alph-2-macroglobulin (a2M). Specialized macrophages in the liver (Kupffer cells) also engulf and digest the unwanted substances that have been captured by the activated a2M. © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. 9. Clearing Out the Inflammation Systemic enzymes support with Wobenzym® N & Wobenzym® PSis a safe and effective way to support the bodies natural mechanisms designed to protect the body from unwanted or excessive substances. © 2009 Joseph J Collins, RN, ND * Research is based specifically on the Wobenzym®formulations. Review research at www.systemicenzymesupport.org The immune system is constantly protecting the body from foreign substances and removing excessive amounts of antibodies, circulating immune complexes, cytokines, cellular debris, fibrin, amyloid, and c-reactive protein, and decreasing rouleaux formation.
