  1. Procurement Quality Assurance NASA’s Perspective of Supplier Process/Continual Improvement • Use quality as the framework for process/continual improvement • Don’t mandate specific business approaches • Focus on the basic quality requirements (AS9100A) • Provide assistance in understanding and reference best practice • Here is the basic requirement you have under contract, this is what it means, here are examples of how people have addressed it • Reinforce common understanding without a lot of new requirements (avoid interpretation letters, definition documents, etc) • Allow “best business practice” tools to work within this road map Continuous improvement and process control in the context Useful guidance and reference based on AS9100A requirements

  2. The Plexus Perspective of Supplier Process/Continual Improvement Procurement Quality Assurance • Use an industry specific and internationally accepted system approach (AS9100A) • Create tools that complement the system and allow stakeholders to utilize the tools in their business approaches • Provide types of training that are focused on assisting in understanding and reference best practice • Apply the Plexus Learning Model, a proven approach to transferring concepts and knowledge • Assist the stakeholders in cascading knowledge throughout their organizations and supply chains Focus Tools and Training on Practices That are based on the Process Approach of the AS9100A requirements. This Provides the Best Chance for True Improvement

  3. Procurement Quality Assurance We believe that if you can really address this question, you will have continuous improvement What Does AS9100A Mean to Me? AS9100A Management Process /System Owner Practitioners Guidance Work Floor Technician Operators Reference Customer/Supplier/Assessor- Registrar

  4. Procurement Quality Assurance How to provide useful reference and guidance: AS9100A The overarching process based standard that allows Quality and Business Systems to be Linked Practitioner’s Guides Useful Guidance on how AS9100A relates to individual process/systems owners Operator’s References Practical Information to assist deployment at the operator level with respect typically operations within the aerospace environment AS9100A Practitioners Guidance Operators Reference Continuous Improvement Results

  5. Procurement Quality Assurance AS9100A Quality Management System Resource Management Product Realization Management Responsibility Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control • AS9100A • A common set of requirements for continuous improvement is already in place • Adopted Across the Aerospace Industry • International standard with the key requirements for the aerospace industry • Allows processes in operationsacross the supply chain to link AS9100A

  6. Procurement Quality Assurance Practitioner’s Guide • PRACTITIONER’S GUIDES • Understanding on how to apply the standard • Best practices from the aerospace industry • Shared ideas from other industries and sectors • Guidance for application, measurement, analysis, improvement, and control Example: Product Realization Continuous Improvement From the Perspective of a Manufacturing Lead What do I need to Know About implementing AS9103, etc.? Product Realization AS9100A Requirement Practitioner Perspectives Manufacturing Engineering Purchasing Production/ Planning Other

  7. Procurement Quality Assurance • Operators Reference • Key Definitions • Pictures - what might it look like (on a print, in a work instruction – use common examples) • What do I need to think about? Operator’s Reference Example: Product Realization Continuous Improvement From the Perspective of a Operator working in manufacturing What do I need to Know About Key Characteristics?
