Moving to ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009 • Conduct review of your existing standard to 2009 for deltas • Ensure malfunction testing documentation saved • Evaluate Tech Spec and/or USFAR commitments • Revise fidelity/configuration management procedures – Use NEI 09-09 R1 as basis for SBT • Determine best time to implement • Train Ops Instructors, Simulator Staff, Management • Practice SBT • Implement through letter to NRC Region OL Branch Chief

Moving to ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009Delta Examples to Consider • Test Parameters • 1998 & 2009 Steady State test has Charging and Letdown flow but 1985 did not require • SBT • 1985 not required / 1998 – Check List / 2009 – NEI 09-09 R1 standard • Post Event Simulator Test • 1985 & 1998 not required / 2009 should be conducted for certain plant events

  6. Moving to ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009Delta Examples to Consider • Operability Testing (4.4.3.1) • Shall be conducted once per reference unit fuel cycle. (Was once per year requirement) • Simulator Core Performance Testing • More detailed requirements • Steady State Test • No longer require one hour simulator stability run • Comparison done at three distinct power levels spanning at least 50% of operating range

Moving to ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009Data Collection • Don’t underestimate the Data Collection and it’s complexity! • Defining data collection parameters. • Resolution • What points • What alarm files • Maintaining data collected within secure environment (exam related information) • Backing up the data, storage location and media. • Erasing historical data from unsecure locations.

  8. Fleet Considerations • How are Fleet Procedures affected by New Standard • When are the IP71111.11 inspections scheduled for each site • Are there any concerns related to major simulator modification (Outage / Design Changes) • Assign simulator lead from each site to the project
