  4. Chinese I • Where to find the module content to do assignments? • Click on Course Materials (2nd left top) – Content- Select Module Name, see below: • then, click on first blue link in right top to see module content

  5. Chinese I You will find the Etext under Handouts. Chinese IA has 7 modules and IAB has 15 modules. There are 2 lessons with 2 quizzes and 1 test each module. For AB course, you will only take the first quiz for practice and test each module.

  6. Lesson 1 王明:你好。 Hello! (wang ming: ni hao) 琳达:你好。 Hello! (lin da: ni hao) 王明:我叫王明。你叫什么名字? My name is Wang Ming. What is your name? (wang ming: wo jiao wang ming, ni jiao shen me ming zi) 琳达:我叫琳达,你是这里的学生吗? My name is Linda. Are you a student here? (lin da: wo jiao lin da, ni shi zhe li de xue sheng ma) 王明:对,我是一年级的学生。Yes, I am a freshman student. (wang ming:dui, wo shi yi nian ji de xue sheng)

  7. Lesson 1 continue 琳达:我也是一年级的学生。 also, as well, too (lin da: wo ye shi yi nian ji de xue sheng) I am also a freshman student. 琳达:您好,您是王老师吗? (lin da: nin hao, nin shi wang lao shi ma) Hello, are you teacherWang? 金老师:不,我不是,我姓金。 No… Is not (jin lao shi: bu, wo bu shi, wo xing jin) No, I am not. My family is Jin. 琳达:哦,不好意思。 (lin da: oh, bu hao yi si) Oh, sorry (excuse me) 金老师:没事儿。Never mind. Or It is doesn’t matter. (jin lao shi: mei shi er)

You may say 我叫王明(wo jiao wang ming) My name is Wong Ming. 我叫李莉(wo jiao li li) My name is Li Li. Note: 我(wo – I);你(ni – you); 他(ta – he); 她(ta – she) Chinese popular family name王(wang),李(li),金(Jin)

Review Q2 • Are you a teacherhere? • 你是这里的老师吗? • (ni shi zhe li de lao shi ma) • 对,我是这里一年级的老师 • (dui, wo shi zhel li yi nian ji de lao shi) • Yes, I am a freshman teacher here. 这里here; 一年级freshman;的of / ~'s (possessive particle);老师teacher 学生xue sheng – student 老师lao shi - teacher PS: in the real quiz, will have the different pronoun or noun instead. So, you need to know basic pronouns and family members in Chinese. Please refer to last slides.

  10. Review Q3 Please find the correct characters which means “sorry” in Chinese character. 1不好意思 - sorry (bu hao yi si) 2没事儿 – never mind (mei shi er) 3没关系– doesn’t matter, never mind (mei guan xi)
