  2. Microprocessors What exactly is a microprocessor? At the heart of every personal computer and workstations lies a microprocessor. They also control the logical data in most digital devises from clock radios to cars. To make is simple it is the brain of your computer, if performs commands and instructions and controls the operations of the computer.

  3. The Microprocessor Itself Three basic characteristics: Instruction set-The set of instructions that the microprocessor can execute. Bandwidth- The number of bits processed in a single instruction. And Clock Speed as we all know is the speed at which a computer can execute a demand.

  4. Microprocessors and Mounting This refers to the connection type the microprocessor makes with the motherboard. When buying a microprocessor take into consideration: 1. The socket type is stated at the vendor’s website. 2. There is a microprocessor part number stated at the vendor’s website that can be traced to the manufacturer’s website which specifies the mounting package you want.

  5. Examples of Microprocessors: Socket 370 Intel Xeon AMD K5 AMD K6 AMD Slot A

  6. Heat Sinks and Fans Heat sinks and fans are made to cool down the temperature of your computer so that work at a greater workings ability. How they work is by absorbing the heat and expunging it into the surrounding air. Fans have the same capabilities.

  7. Examples of Heat Sinks/Fans: Locations: Heat Sinks Desktop Heat Fans Laptop Heat Fans

  8. Questions Anyone? • Which adapter enables a computer system to exchange information with other systems on a local network? • The NIC Card. • What can be used to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD)? • A wrist grounding strap.

  9. NIC Cards look like: This: And this:

  10. Wrist Grounding Straps: Look like this: And are attached like this:

  11. Thank You For Watching Drive safely And Have a nice day. Information held about our products may or may not change with in the near future. Keep in mind that technology is always changing.
