Transport Project on Gender Sensitivity Gender Constraints • Inadequate statistical data (GDD) • Religious and cultural barriers • Not mandatory or regulatory requirements • Varying needs analysis for different gender groups – it’s not standard across the board Gender Opportunities • Cross learning between nations, institutions, sectors etc • Using existing data and literature • Human capital (gender/social development specialist) • Existing good will for gender norms reform across the world (dynamic society) Gender Responsiveness/Analysis Components in a Project • Project management committee and other structures enhance equal or acceptable participation of both men and women • Facilities that address the needs of both men & women or boys & girls • Scheduling of project activities to address gender gaps & to suit into the needs of men & women • ESMP – though the focus tend to focus more on environmental issues than gender issues
