  1. DEBORAH O’FLAHERTY LEWIS - CHILD PROTECTIVE INVESTIGATOR SUPERVISOR Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis is a Child Protective Investigator Supervisor for the Broward Sheriff’s Office in southern Florida. After years of working to protect children from dangerous home situations, she now collaborates with foster care agency staff to improve danger assessment systems and to clarify the agency’s policy to the staff and all parties involved. O’Flaherty-Lewis believes that with clear communication, the safety of children can be the main concern.

  2. Important Work Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis works as a Child Protective Investigator Supervisor in the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Child Protective Investigations Section. Part of her important work within the community is to develop reports and summaries reflecting the chronological background of each case and providing a clear assessment of the underlying problems in each case. O’Flaherty-Lewis looks into the causes of dangerous situations for children and attempts to solve the root problems. Heavy Lifting in the Community Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis works hard to lift children out of dangerous home situations, possibly saving their lives in the process. Part of her job is to assess case information to make sure that each child in her cases gets the services they need to live full lives. She coordinates with the provider agencies in her county to ensure that at-risk children under her jurisdiction get their physical, mental, and emotional needs met.

Preventing Danger to At-Risk Children Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis works to prevent danger to at-risk children from her position as the Child Protective Investigator Supervisor within the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Child Protective Investigations Section. One way she does this is by identifying potential environmental hindrances to improving the living situations of certain at-risk families. She believes that this task is one of her most important ones because it prevents children from living in dangerous situations in the first place. Working to Improve the Lives of Children Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis works actively in her community to improve the lives of at-risk children. She works as a Child Investigator Supervisor for Broward County. From her desk at the Sheriff’s office of Broward County, she coordinates with county officials to ensure that safety, risk, permanency, and other concerns are being actively addressed by Child Protective Services for all children under her jurisdiction.

Part of O’Flaherty-Lewis’ job is to advocate best case practices and decisions for children in her jurisdiction and their families. She is proud of her work in the community because she feels she is making a difference in many children’s lives. Working for and With her Community Deborah O’Flaherty-Lewis works hard to help at-risk children in her community get the services they need to improve their lives. Part of her job is to conduct Family Team Conferences with Child Protective Services staff, clients, and others in hospitals, foster care agencies in Broward County, Florida, and other community services. These meetings are always aimed at improving the lives of the children on her caseload.
