  8. A sudden gloom, like in a tomb, the sunlit air transcended.

  9. Jill coughed and fell, Jack cursed demons’ hell!Why hadn’t Death but waited?

  10. His own true love, so like a doveWas now in Heaven, gated.

  11. Jack swung the pail into his frailCrown—it broke asunder!

  12. He now knew that Death came true,Jack’s laughter was Hell’s plunder.
