The Secretary of State made an oral statement in the House of Commons responding to the report on 12th October 2010 The Government will provide more details about what this means for students after the Spending Review has concluded on 20th October Any reforms will be introduced for those entering higher education in 2012. Any major changes to higher education funding and student finance will therefore not affect those already at university and those who have left university and are in repayment We are in the final stages of agreeing the student support package for 2011 entrants and this will be announced soon.   3. We recognise that those students who have already applied, or intend to apply, for deferred entry in 2012 , will be keen to know how any changes might affect them. The government normally tries to announce the details of the student support arrangements in the summer of the year when most students apply. So, for those starting university in autumn 2012, details on student support should be announced by summer 2011 It will be for individual universities to decide what fee they charge to those applying for deferred entry in 2012.   4. Summary of Recommendations Please note that these are ONLY recommendations: NOdecisions have yet been taken, and the package of support available to 11/12 entrants will not be known for several months

Maximum Fees up £85 from £3,290 to £3,375 Minimum Bursary (if full fees) up from £329 to £338 All other support frozen at 2010/11 rates Maintenance Grant £2906 maximum Maintenance Loan £4950 max for student away from home, not London Income under £25k receives full grant & maintenance loan Other minor amendments to policy - do not affect eligibility Full Time Policy Changes for 11/12 Please note that the above is subject to parliamentary approval, and is due to come into force 12th November 2010

  7. Helps with the cost of the fees charged by your university or college: Amount depends on how intensive your course is; Also depends on household income; Maximum available is £1,230; Students can apply for part-time support for up to 8 years. Fee Grant

  9. Helps with the cost of course-related expenses, for example books and travel: Amount depends on household income – it is the household income of the part-time student which is taken into account not the income of their parents; Maximum available is £265. Course Grant

  12. Part-time students may be eligible for: The Access to Learning Fund (ALF); Additional Fee Support Scheme (AFSS). These are administered by the university or college Extra Financial help for Part-time students
