Science Day – Feb 28thSir.CV Raman’s Discovery day • On February 28th, 1928, he announced the discovery of the Raman effect at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, and was awarded the 1930 Noble Prize in physics for his work. • Raman was the first Asian and first non-White to get any Nobel Prize in science.

Promotion of Science • To promote the science, Technology, Engineering among school children • This inter school science exhibition organized by INNOVA-Education research foundation • Supported by ROTARY Bangalore south • TAFE – Hunter Institute; International Skill development Australia university • Total logistics & knowledge partnering done by SILICON WORLD

  5. Day & Venue • Date: 26th and 27th Feb 2011; two days • Time: 9am to 5pm • Tentative Venue: The India Heritage Center, Koramangala, Bangalore • Snacks/coffee/tea organised for all the kids • Separate stall provided for each students group to present their idea/innovative project / concept / model

  6. Exhibition Category • Individual school has to send their registration nominating their school best science/model of the year • 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th std has to present their individual models • Each class is represented by maximum of three students • Maximum of 3 x 6 class = 18 students can participate from each school

  7. Presentation method Students can present their individual Project / Model / concept based any of the below mentioned topics • Astronomy • Space • Agriculture • Alternative • Electrical • Electronics • Food science • Biology • Botany • Chemistry • Computers • Earth Sciences & Geology • Engineering • Geography • Mathematics • Medicine • Physics • Robotics • Weather • Zoology

Exhibition Prizes • It is an inter school competition • School will get the participation certificate • Individual students will get the participation certificate • Winner will get trophy and certificate along with scholarships worth more than Rs.135000/- • Runner will get runner’s trophy /momentos & certificate • Each class / category will get one runner and winner prizes • Totally 36 students will get the prizes.

Expected participation • More than 300+ Bangalore rural and urban schools are invited • More than 100+ schools are expected to participate • More than 1800 students on their innovative ideas will present • More than 600 creative models will be displayed • Along with students parents, other schools students, teachers, principals & managements are expected to visit the exhibitions. • Expected crowd is around 3000+

  10. ScienceQuiz competition • Inter school competition • Two category • Middle and High School • School can nominate best two students from each category • Quiz will be on science and related topics • More of activity based, experimental based, puzzle based.

Quiz Prizes • It is an inter school competition • School will get the participation certificate • Individual students will get the participation certificate • Winner will get trophy and certificate along with scholarships worth more than Rs.135000/- • Runner will get runner’s trophy /momentos & certificate • Each class / category will get one runner and winner prizes along with consolation prizes • Totally 8 students will get the prizes.

Judging Criteria The following criteria will be used to judge each of the 8 core steps of your project site: • About me • An excellent student will show a real passion for science and be able to present their ideas with confidence, clarity and enthusiasm, and explain what winning would mean to them. • The Question • An excellent question will be interesting, creative, worded scientifically and relevant to the world today. • Hypothesis • An excellent hypothesis will lead on from the question, be tightly focused and build on existing knowledge. • Research • Excellent students will undertake research to help them shape their question and hypothesis and to put their work into a relevant, real-world context.

  13. Judging Criteria • Experiment • Excellent students will demonstrate that they have used good experimental techniques and describe their experiment clearly and in detail. • Data • Excellent data will be relevant, sufficient to support a conclusion and should be recorded accurately and precisely, and be presented clearly. • Observations • Excellent observations will describe patterns or trends supported by the data. • Conclusion • An excellent conclusion will explain how the experiment answers the question or why it fails to do so and whether or not it supports the hypothesis.

  14. Judges • Six Judges are invited from • Industry • Academic • Research • People Voice – individual visitors can vote for the best model; the points of which will be calculated for the final round • five best team will be selected for final round and for final presentation and questions from judges.

  15. How to present? • Individual school, teachers will help their participating students batch to prepare the model with theme. • They have to make the documentation of 500 words • Come with video, presentation to present • Also they have prepare the related poster or banner

Registration • School has to select the best batch of students with model they have presented in their recent science program conducted at school internally • Or teachers along with their best students they can nominate with their project • School has to download the registration form the website www.siliconworld.in/gyanvigyan • School has to sent their registration form for exhibition and quiz separately • Entry is free; no registration fee

Sponsors • We are looking for Platinum, Gold & Silver Sponsors • Event other general individual sponsors • Scholarship sponsors • Gifts / Momento / trophy and certificate sponsors • Food / snacks sponsors • All the data base of the students or other visitors will be given to the sponsors. • Guests / judge sponsors • Total expenditure expected is Rs.4,65,000.00
