  2. NABJ Region III Director Dedrick Russell • Bio: Russell is an award winning Education Reporter for WBTV News 3 in Charlotte, NC. He is also a member of WBTV’s editorial board. Russell received a bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia State University. He is the president of the Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists. • Advice/Tips: • Attend the convention, and come prepared. Research the different workshops and who is heading them. Bring your resumes, reels and business cards. Leave the convention with at least one mentor. • Email: darussell@wbtv.com

Duke CarterAnchor at WCJB TV20 • Bio: Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from UF. • Advice/Tips: • You have to be willing to work hard to get the position you want. • If one person doesn’t like you, someone else will. You have to have self-confidence. • If you’re having trouble with writing, take an article in the newspaper and trim it down to the most important information. Concessions • Friday, March 15 Baseball vs Kentucky 4:30 PM to 10:30 PM 4 volunteers McKethan Stadium • Sunday, March 17 Katsu Challenge 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM 6 volunteers O’Connell Center (Please meet in the Gate 1 lobby.) • Tuesday, March 19 Baseball vs North Florida 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM 4 volunteers McKethan Stadium • Wednesday, March 20 Softball vs USC 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM 4 volunteers Pressly Stadium • Saturday, April 6 Orange and Blue 10 a.m. 6 volunteers • Thursday, April 11 Baseball vs SC 4:30 PM to 10:30 PM 4 volunteers - McKethan Stadium

UF NABJ Elections • Nominees have until the meeting on March 27 to prepare a presentation (2-3 minutes), which outlines why they deserve an officer position, two new ideas and their activities next year. Professional attire is recommended. • The 2013-2014 officers will shadow the E-Board meeting on April 3. • Members running for a position need to have at least a 2.0 GPA • ***Keep in mind that becoming an officer is a huge time commitment! There are E-Board meetings every week and GBMs bi weekly.*** • Nominations for President: Nickelle Smith • Nominations for Vice President: Lola Glanton, Peta-Gay Sheerwood, Tia Brock and Meghan Pryce • Nominations for Treasurer: Tia Brock, Lola Glanton and Peta-Gay Sheerwood • Nominations for Secretary: Lola Glanton, Courtney Coleman and Rochelle Alleyne • Nominations for Historian: Alexandra Morales, Tia Brock and Ann-Makir Magloire

Officer Positions • President: chief executive officer, overseeing the other officers, spokesperson for the organization • Vice President: absorbs responsibilities of president when president is not available, oversees the entire work of Zion • Treasurer: chief financial officer, keeps in contact with UF concessions, books all concession events, organizes members for concession events, collects the check/checks the mail, checks the bank account • Secretary: keeps records of everything , transcribes meeting minutes, keeps record of all student organizations important documents, keeps in contact with members, send out emails, organize events • Historian: bulletin board, takes pictures, prints flyers, tabling, social media (ideally for a public relations of advertising major) • Check out the UF NABJ Constitution for more details on officer positions.

Upcoming Events • Black Women Image Initiative (BWII): Minority Misrepresentation in Media on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in Ustler Hall • A prize will be given to whoever tweets the most using @BWII_UF with #minorities&media. • UF NABJ MINI WEEK! (tentative) • March 27 - Election night! • March 28 - Final Cut Pro Workshop with Rohan • March 29 - Website Building Workshop (Dom?) • BBQ at Mr. Harris’ house - Rescheduled. Maybe April 13?
