3. Protagonist John Tyree- He is the main character. The whole book is in John’s point of view. Everything that goes on in the book is based on John’s life and will change his way somehow. Everything revolves around him in this book and it all connects to his emotions.
4. Antagonist Randy- He is against John because he thinks that he should be with Savannah. He goes throughout the beginning of the book very tense and uneasy around John. He is always glaring at them and never seems happy to see him come around to the house.
5. My Favorite Character Savannah Curtis- I love Savannah’s character because she is so sweet and caring. She is always thinking of others and trying to make everyone happy. The fact that she is helping to build a house for families that need it explains her kind heart to a T. She is very supportive and always uses kind words towards others.
6. Least Favorite Character Tim- I love Tim as a person, but I was on Team John so the ending of the book really threw me off. You can just sense through the whole book, and even the character John can, that Tim was crazy about Savannah and he would do anything to get her. He is very kind to others and has a lot of patience, but I just wanted John to get what he deserved.

7. Rising Action

   John was sitting on the pier looking out into the ocean when two beautiful girls starting walking his way. He said “Hello,” and minded himself until he realized the brunette starting shouting. A boy had knocked her bag into the water. John dove off the pier into the ocean and retrieved her purse.
8. Exposition Savannah introduces herself and her friends after thanking John for getting her bag. He introduces himself and Savannah asks him to come to a barbeque with her and some friends up the beach. He accepts the offer and he enjoys the evening with them. As he sits at the fire Randy and Tim come and introduce themselves.
9. Climax The two weeks spent with Savannah had come to an end and John had to return to the Army for 12 months. They wrote to each other, but soon the letters started to subside. He received one final letter that told him things were over. Savannah had found someone else. John had received news that his father was in the hospital. He had to return to North Carolina for his funeral. He visited Savannah and found out that she had married Tim. She also told John that Tim was diagnosed with Melanoma and was not going to make it.
10. Falling Action John sells his fathers coin collection. He sends a anonymous donation to Savannah and Tim. They use the money to get Tim the treatments he needed to survive.
11. Resolution Because of John’s donation Tim survives his cancer. Savannah and Tim stay happily married and John backs off. He is hurt because he still has strong feelings towards Savannah, but he knows deep down he did the right thing for Tim’s well-being and that every time he looks at the moon Savannah will be doing the same.
12. Setting “Dear John” takes place in the year 2001 in Wilmington, North Carolina. It is important that this book was in 2001, because that is when 9/11 occurred. It is important that it is set in North Carolina because it has an ocean and it a small-town feel. It is very homey and beautiful at the same time. It is a very magical city.
13. Themes Love- Two people go through the ups and downs of falling in love and realize how strong you have to be to keep it going even through rough times. War- You realize what every soldier has to go through when they are taken away from their families and sent to serve for our country. Disease- Tim has to overcome an illness that can change his life.
14. 10- This book is very realistic and so amazing. You really get connected to the characters and all that goes on in their lives. You feel for them and understand why they make the choices they do. It keeps you guessing and wanting more. You are constantly being surprised with different information throughout the book that really makes you excited to see the turn out. Rating

The seven-year plan would expand operations substantially at the Rhode Island-size installation in Tooele County, about 80 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. Under the proposal, counterterrorism would become a major mission component at the super-secret installation. A mock city is to be built for urban chemical and biological attack exercises and several existing facilities such as the German Village, built during World War II to test incendiary bombs, would be used for counterterrorism training for both military and civilian personnel.

Bush ordered missiles fired at a bunker in Baghdad where he believed that Saddam Hussein was hiding. After six years of war, there seems to be an end in sight for the American occupation. In June 2009, American forces withdrew from Iraqi cities, meeting a deadline set for their withdrawal under an agreement that took effect Jan. 1, 2009. Declaring a national holiday to mark the occasion, Prime Minister NuriKamal al-Maliki positioned himself as a proud leader of a country independent at last, looking ahead to the next milestone of parliamentary elections in March 2010. President Obama, who campaigned on a promise to end the war, entered office indicating that he did not intend to waver from his goal. On his first full day in office, he told Pentagon officials and military commanders "to engage in additional planning necessary to execute a responsible military drawdown from Iraq.'' A month later, he announced a plan to withdraw all combat troops by August 2010 and all remaining troops by December 2011, a timetable slightly longer than he had pledged during the campaign.

The latest, which took place in Ramadi, the capital of the Anbar province, targeted a meeting between the Awakening Councils, insurgents who switched sides to become key US allies and the Iraqi military. The attacks have exposed the severe problems faced by the Awakening Councils following the US withdrawal from the restive Sunni Muslim province – once the centre of an insurgency that humiliated the US army. Awakening Councils leaders are complaining that they have been abandoned by the US. Many live in fear of reprisals for collaborating with the occupation. The death rate among Iraqis has reached the 2007-8 levels, one of the bloodiest years of the occupation. Iraq continues to reel from the occupation. Although the US has been gradually drawing down its troops to send them Afghanistan, some 130,000 soldiers remain – double the number in Afghanistan. Although the disappearance of US troops from major urban centres to giant bases has greatly reduced violence, none of the problems that dogged the occupation have been resolved. The country continues to be plagued by power cuts, high unemployment and ethnic and sectarian conflicts. Now a severe drought has destroyed the agricultural sector. The latest bombings are said to be the work of insurgents opposed to the Shia Muslim dominated government and the Awakening Councils.
22. Social Issue The Army is a big social issue in our world today. People are losing loved ones left and right and others are risking their lives to help serve our country. It is important that people take the Army seriously and know how much they are doing for our country. We need to respect the soldiers and be grateful every day for what they do for us. They are amazing people fighting for what they believe.
23. Army There are over a million people in the Army. .0157 people die every ten minutes in combat. The Army pays for your tuition. The U.S. is spending 7.3 billion in Iraq. It is $390,000 to deploy one soldier to Iraq for 1 year. The U.S. is spending $5,000 per second. 115,000 troops in Iraq as of Nov. 30, 2009
24. Budget The budget has raised 2 billion dollars just since 2009. The Army alone is requesting 83.1 billion dollars. The budget is to keep them on track by 2011. “The budget proposal allows the Army to adapt to changing missions in the war, building skills inside agile, mobile units needed in today's war fight while continuing to develop Brigade Combat Team modernization that will build the Army that the nation needs for the future.” (Downie)
25. What To Do? Use weapons sufficiently. Do NOT waste ammunition. Join the Army. Save gasoline. Grow and sustain the All-Volunteer Force. Station the Force to meet strategic demands by providing infrastructure and services. Train and equip Soldiers and units to maintain a high level of readiness for current operations. Provide effective and efficient support to combatant commanders Reset our Soldiers, units, and equipment for future deployments and other contingencies. Transform the Army to meet the demands in a changing security environment. Modernize the force. Donate to the Army!!! Pay Their Taxes
