Nicholas Sparks (Sparks) • Was born in Omaha, Nebraska December 31, 1965. • Has a sister and a brother • “The Passing” was the first book he wrote but never published!! • July 1989, married to Cathy • The Notebook was the first book that was published and then bought by Warner Brother, and his books took off!! • Has five children.

  5. Favorite Character • John is my favorite character • John is the one that has the outstanding courage to join the Army to fight for his country!

  6. Least Favorite Character • Tim • He is my least favorite because he knows that Savannah is in love with John and he ends up marring Savannah and leaves John without knowing what really happened.

  7. Exposition • Savannah is going to Lenior, North Carolina to rebuild houses that have been lost. • John come home on leave from the army to visit his father and meets Savannah at the beach.

  8. Rising Action • When John meets Savannah. • They know that they only have two week together. • When John leaves for the first time to go back to Germany.

  9. Climax • When the letters to John started to come less often. Then when Savannah wrote to John and tells him that she is getting married!

  10. Falling Action • John comes back for his dad’s funeral. • John goes back to see Savannah and finds out that she started a camp for autistic children. • She also tells John that Tim is in the hospital with cancer, and they need money for treatment.

  11. Resolution • After John leaves, he donates all of his dad’s money from his coin collection to Tim and Savannah to get the right treatment. • Tim lives, and Savannah and John never see each other again.

  14. Rate the book • After I got done I had to think about how I felt about it. In the end I thought the book was good!!! Through 1-10 I would say that it is a 9!

  15. Introduce your social issue • I issue that I picked is Asperger syndrome. • I think that this is a good issue because a lot of people don’t know a lot about it and to make people more aware of what is going on around them.

  16. Aspergers Syndrome • It was named after Hans Asperger • This is a part of the Autistic Spectrum • Neurobiological disorder • Diagnosis was found in 1994 • No two kids that have Aspergers are the same or even have the same symptoms

Actions of Aspergers • Have difficulty interacting socially, repeat behaviors, and often are clumsy • May speak in monotone, and may not respond to other people's comments, emotions, or humor. • They have a hard time with eye contact. • They usually follow a set routine and experience anxiety when this is broken.

  18. Differences • Some children are in mainstream schools where their progress depends on the encouragement of parents, teachers, and classmates. • Most Children that have AS can learn to have a normal life and over come there challenges. • Bothered by a light that no one else notices.

  19. How many families are affected! • Over 400,000 families • It is very difficult to diagnose and treat. • Many kids are diagnosed after age 3, with most diagnosed between the ages of 5 and 9. • 1 out of 100 people are affected with Aspergers Syndrome they might only be on the lower end.

More • They might also begin to have stress for sight, sound, strong smells, or taste. • They like to have a routine in their everyday life • When they like something they end up finding everything about the interest that they have so they can have that one thing in their life that never changes

  21. … • They can live a happy life if they can get the help they need • Jobs are something that they have to work up to because it might change there routine but most of the time they end up liking their job • Everyone around can help if they understand even a little more of what they have and to help when ever possible to get them to socialize more
