  1. Human Connectome Project • http://www.humanconnectomeproject.org/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oTEhFAAARE

  2. Lobes of Telencephalon • Frontal lobe – conscious thought, reasoning, speech, movement, emotions, and problem solving • Parietal – integrating sensory information, visuospatial processing, manipulating objects • Occipital – visual processing (visual cortex) • Temporal – sound (auditory cortex), smell, parts of speech, memory (hippocampus)

  3. Telencephalon

  4. Telencephalon • Sulcus and gyrus • Commissure – connect hemispheres: • Anterior commissure – temporal lobes, amygdala • Posterior commissure – pretectal nuclei • Corpus callosum – largest, 200-250 mill. axons! • Splenium (P) and genu (A) • Prefrontal cortex, motor cortex, sensory areas of parietal and occipital lobes • Commissure of fornix – hippocampal commissure • Habenular commissure – habenular nuclei, epithalamus; linked to limbic system

  5. Telencephalon

  6. Limbic System • Regulates expression of emotions • Spatial and short-term memory • Temporarily holds experience until established in cerebral cortex • Connects to autonomic nervous – visceral responses (hypothalamus)

  7. Social Decision Making • Mesolimbic Reward System • Social Behavior Network AH, anterior hypothalamus blAMY, basolateral amygdala BNST/meAMY, bed nucleus of the striaterminalis/ medial amygdala HIP, hippocampus LS, lateral septum NAcc, nucleus accumbens PAG/CG, periaqueductal gray/central Gray POA, preopticarea Str, striatum VMH, ventromedial hypothalamus VP, ventral pallidum VTA, ventral tegmental area

  8. Social behavior network Mesolimbic reward system Shared by both networks

  9. Homologies based on developmental similarities
