  3. DRINKING PROBLEMS… “It’s only called alcoholism after you graduate!!” Drinking has become a major problem with students at universities and colleges alike. Binge Drinking= 5+ alcoholic drinks in one sitting for men and 4+ for women!!

  4. Heavy and frequent consumption of alcohol can have negativeinterpersonal, legal, and educationalconsequences for the drinker. • In 2000, Henry Wechsler’s College Alcohol Study reported that approximately 44% of college students met criteria for abusive drinking! • Over the past 20 years, Iowa City has witnessed an increase in the number of alcohol establishments that are impacting college student access to alcohol.

  5. BARS • Zoning Laws • Why are there SO many bars? • Location of bars…

  6. $How much are you spending?$ • Student spend a ridiculous amount of money on alcohol, even more than what they spend on school! • A student goes out about 3 nights each week and spend an estimated 20 dollars in the bar each night. • About 10 dollars for food after the bar, and about 5 dollars for cab. There are 30 weeks a school year. So, the total spending is (20+15+5)*3*30=$3150. • Students seem to go out 3 nights a week, but some might drink 6 nights a week that adds up to the spending quickly! • On special occasions, some bar would increase their cover price, and no free coming back: On Halloween: Summit $30, Field House $10New Year痴 Eve: Summit $20Money spent on drinks comes from:Parents, Scholarship money, Work.
