  1. The Southeast Regional Health Screening Mobile Medical Unit& Southeast Cancer Center, Dothan, ALBreast Cancer Awareness PromotionPresented by: Cindy Tanton & Kim Smith

Our Event “Underwires for the Wiregrass” • Collaboration between a local radio station, Women’s Imaging Dept. & Cancer Center to promote public awareness on breast health, cancer prevention, and early detection • Collecting donated new or used bras to construct a 6 foot “Branument” which will be a large peanut turned horizontally to form breasts with the exterior covered in donated bras • Branument to be displayed in front of Women’s Center of Hospital the entire month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Our Event “Underwires for the Wiregrass” • Radio Station running promos every hour asking for donated bras, to be dropped off at local participating businesses • Every Thursday in Month of September we have LIVE on air opportunity to be guests of morning show to talk about breast health and spotlight survivors • To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are having LIVE radio remote on October 1, in front of Women’s Center to construct the “branument,” using volunteers. Serving refreshments, having guests, and a LOT of FUN!

  6. Developing Concept • Don’t be afraid to take a good idea and customize it to your cause • Attach it to something iconic in your community • Try for an exclusive relationship with media partner • Look for win/win opportunities in business partnerships.

  7. Solicit Sponsors/Partners • Evaluate the audience you are trying to reach • Invite a media partner that reaches that audience • Set event goals (items donated, money raised, number of volunteers needed, etc.) • Create Action Plan leading up to event • Establish Clear path of communication with all parties • Allow ample time to achieve action items • Say THANK YOU to all participating businesses and the community for their support

  8. Promoting Your Event • Create Promotional Flyers & Posters with event details. Posters to go up at participating businesses. Look for big events to have flyers available (charitable events, city sponsored events, school events, civic or professional groups or large area employers). • Set High Expectations with Your Media Partner for On-Air promotions to put out a consistent message leading up to Event • Get Other Media Outlets to Your event through Press Releases and reaching out to local TV and newspaper reporters. Funnel it through the person that typically handles health and wellness stories. • Look for opportunities to Cross Promote with other Breast Health &/or Cancer Related Events
