  1. Digital Citizenship Topics include: • Online Research • Plagiarism • Citing Sources • Bibliography

  2. Digital Citizenship Online Research is done using online sources The same plagiarism rules apply for research that’s done online as for research that’s done from print sources!

  3. Online Sources

  4. Plagiarism is… using some or all of somebody’s work or idea, and saying that you created it. • It includes copying and pasting text, images, video, or anything else someone else has created, without giving credit • It is cheating • It’s against school rules • It’s illegal

  5. Plagiarism Sometimes it’s a lot easier to plagiarize from online sources than it is from print sources because you can easily…

  6. How do you avoid plagiarism? • Give credit when using other people’s work by providing a citation A citationis a note of credit to the author The list of all the credits is called a bibliography

  7. It is okay to use someone else’s words or ideas if you cite it! There are 2 ways to use others’ information: • Put the information into your own words and cite it • Use the author’s exact words, put it in quotation marks, and cite it

  8. Citing sources Its not always fun, but we have to do it! Someone went to a lot of trouble to research this subject and we can’t just use their information without giving them the credit. That would be plagiarism and it’s wrong!

  9. QuickCite • Creating a bibliography is a piece of cake with QuickCite! • http://www.noodletools.com/quickcite

  10. Citing Sources • Jot down allthe information you will need for your bibliography while you have the source in front of you!!Don’t wait!!You don’t want to have to come back later or have to sift through websites to re-find your information!

  11. Then all you have to do is plug the information into the quickcite template!! It’s soooooo easy!

  12. Plug in your information

  13. How to Cite this Site • Most online resources such as encyclopedias and educational websites have the information already in citation form at the bottom of the page. All you have to do is copy and paste it into your bibliography • It’s okay to copy and paste this information • They provide it for you because they want you to give them proper credit for their research
