FATOSZ’s(Hungarian Rural and Agrotourism Association) concept of rural and agrotourism • To establish, to maintain and to present qualitative infrastrucutre and specific services, while conserving the sorrounding, which are necessary in the process of making satisfied the local and foreign guests satisfied in a wide range of aspects and to gather local people, institutions and local entrepreneurs in order to make their living conditions better

The rural and agrotourism are versatile sets of activities, and a chain of different products. • Beside the specific holiday types ensuring the calm, rural environment, the nature-related forms of holiday are included, like ecotourism, rockclimbing, horse riding, adventure, tourism of sport and healthy life style, hunting, fishing, folk art and tourism of cultural heritage. In some regions, the ethnic based tourism is present,too.

The main attractive factors of rural tourism: the proximity of the nature, living traditons ( material,mental, cultural ), rural life style, familiar atmosphere, human relations. • In fact, these are not the bases of a certain type of tourism, they provide great possibilities to establish unique services from region to region,from guesthouse to guesthouse , and for certain tourism types to develope and to specialize.

  5. Connection between the main attractions and the special products of rural tourism

The products of rural tourism are unique • Are based on the attractiveness of the area, • Generally the guests stay in the same building as the hosts, • Guests can be involved in the activities of the host family,host area • Operating a guest house doesn’t require any legal permission,only registration, and in the form of entrepreneurship , • Increase the demand towards the local services • Create jobs, extra income

Transmitting culture between the host and the guest • Promote gathering the locals and strengthen the conception of being a community • Regional touristic service system can be formed • Sustainable, it will never turn into being a mass touristic destination • Utilizing all touristic products of the village, offering the rural customs,living conditions,culture and agriculture,where there is possibility for it

Rural accomodation •  all accomodation, which were established( are operated) in a village, in a country-house region,or in the rural neighbourhood of a small settlement, where there are possibilities to get familiar with the rural living conditions(1), the local customs(2), culture(3) and agricultural traditions,and in certain case, to participate in them and to make use of the traditional catering.

  9. a • (1) Rural living conditions: eg. Breeding of livestock, cultivation of fruits and vegetables, viticulture, production of dairy products,handicraft, etc. • (2) Local customs: eg. Horse riding,fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, rowing, swimming, breadbaking, making marmalade, winetasting, pálinka-tasting, rural events, rural feasts,etc..

  10. a • (3)Local culture: eg. Folk dance, singing, folk music, embroidery, weaving, folk art, traditional customs, exhibitions of the local history, rural festivals, etc.  • (4)Traditional catering : Eg. Rural type breakfast, lunch, dinner, open-air cooking,baking ; baking in furnace, wine-, pálinkatasting, etc.

  11. a • a) rural and agrotouristical activity on ad-hoc basis: defined in a certain act, in settlements,appropriate for providing rural accomodation occasionally, for the use of visitors, not by private entrepreneur, but by any private person • aa)presenting the heritage of the local folk art, handicraft, architecture and culture: traditional professions of handicraft • ab)presenting customs and activities connecting to the rural life style,rural environment and rural labour culture: dairy pruducts, feeding animals, reaping, gardening, cultivation of herbs, making pálinka, grape harvest,..

  12. a • ac) services of the rural guest table • ad) other services connecting to the active, rural tourism : rent- a -bike, hiking with leader,boat, horse riding, archery, fishing • af)organizing rural events connecting to the activities mentioned in points aa)-ad) in private or public area : Village Festival, Grape Harvest Festival, Feast of the New Wine, events of the rural gastronomy, when accomodation is not included

  13. a • b)rural and agrotouristical provider on ad-hoc basis: a private person, who acts as a service provider,on a property- used properly,prescribed in the act, privately or with the contribution of relatives living in one household with him • c)rural „guest table”: presenting activities related to home-made products and gastronomic traditions, offering and tasting them

New Hungary Rural Development Programme : Axis III and IV. • In axis III, 4 ways to apply for it ( rural tourism, village modernization, small entrepreneurship,conserving heritage site) • 96 LEADER HACS decides about the applications • 49/2009. (V.27.) OGY decree about the conservation and development of rural regions

Ambitions for the future • Considering the facts mentioned before, as the professional advocacies of the small entrepreneurs and civil services of the Hungarian rural tourism • FATOSZ is committed to those small, sustainable touristic developments, which integrate, strengthen and utilize the environmental,cultural and local,communal values • We intend the rural tourism to be appreciated in a way,what would have a positive effects on the lives of underdeveloped and struggling regions ,

We emphasise the importance of the application of legal frameworks so,that they would strengthen and give possibility for rural activities • We are committed to the market based approach of rural tourism • In order to develope the appropriate products we hold necassary to establish and to maintain the management of subregional research and resources

Creating product packets and unique services typical for the given region,subregion, (LEADAR organizations have a big role in it) • We intend to provide professional trainings,guidance and qualifications to help our present service providers and our future partners • Our intention with making a village or a region a touristic destination is to promote the regional development • Our information system is to be developed through Internet (www.falusiturizmus.eu)

To establish and to operate a common information system of the rural and agrotourism of the Carpathian basin • We would like to widen and deepen our cooperation with the Hungarian touristic organizations • To present our services in Hungary and abroad, with the help of different marketing tools • To gather local,rural population, civil society and institution system with the help of the IKUVÉH (Net of Touristic and Cultural Ruraltourism)

The members of this consortium are convinced that the future of their region,village depends on the level of self-development and of the cooperation with each other • Common goal • For the initiative of the Association of the Hungarian Rural and Agrotourism,the members of this consortium decided to found a stakeholder cooperation on national and county levels • The local representatives of the members and the local economical,administrative and social organizations in the form of partnership can decide how to run and develope the tourism of their regions and about the future of it

  24. Hoping that the cooperation with our partners, the common activities and the development of the rural- and agrotourism may contribute to the renewal of the Hungarian countryside and to the formation of the village-city relation system • Thank you for your kind attention!
